Cubby-hole DIN part number?

Okay.

I've been running searches for the last hour, and come up with nothing but conflicting information.

I need the part number for the DIN adapter used for placing a head unit in the cubby located under the climate controls.

Here is what I have seen so far:

Diagram 88401, Part number 73108z
(Listed as "special order" on most parts sites. No other description.

Part MR596469 - Does not seem to be a valid part number.

Part MZ598263EX - CD Changer install kit. This sounds like the one, but it's 70 bucks. A lot of people seem to have gotten what they need for less than 30.

Anybody have any ideas? My dealer's parts department hasn't returned any of my calls yet, and I was hoping to clear this up.

Any help is appriciated!

No takers, huh?

I'll bump it again later in the day and see what shows up.

The part number I have is: MZ598263EX, which matches the one you have.

It says "Audio Kit" on the box but I was told it would work for the CD changer or the Sports Meter Kit. That may or may not be true. The instructions are only for the audio kit, so I'm thinking that may not be true. If I were you I would PM "Option2". I know he relocated his HU down there. I haven't done mine yet so I'm not 100% certain it'll work.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, you've helped me out.

I'll swing by the dealer in a couple of days and question them about it.

I just ordered a MZ598263EX from http://www.mitsubishiparts.net for $52. I'll let you know how it goes. I am relocating my HU down there for a 7" screen to go where the stock HU is located. And eventually a PC will connect to that screen to log OBDII, GPS, MP3 Player, DVD Player for passenger, AvantGo for weather, stocks ,movies to sync up through 802.11b when I start the car in the morning. We'll see if I can get it all together.

There have been a couple other posts that I provided the part number in. Smanders has provided the correct part.

It should however, be known that there are 3 different colors for this part, so watch out you ES/LS owners, the part number everyone is giving out is the black one. There are two others for gray and brown.

How possible/impossible would it be to put the HVAC controls like the Euro/J-spec on the bottom, so there would be a double DIN up top? Any ideas, if it's even do-able?
