Amp Install

Hey, new guy on the forum.
I need to install an amp in my trunk, and i was wondering how you guys ran the wires. How do you get the power from the battery to the trunk without being able to see it?

Pull out the seats and carpet. Run wires underneath it all. Run power and remote on one side and rcas on the other. Put carpet and seats back in. Same with any other car. Should be a hole in the firewall somewhere to run the power wire through

Or you can run the wiring underneath the plastic door sills. And I drilled through the plastic boot where the hood release wire runs to get to my battery (check my registry for a pic).

If you'd like to avoid drilling, and need a fair amount of room, you can cut into the boot where the wires come in on the passenger side. It uses about 3 more feet of wire to make it around the engine and whatnot, but you can easily stuff a 0ga wire under the passenger side doorsills (and a 10ga if the feeling strikes you)

That's where I ran mine. (Yes the 10ga too)

This hole right here? Is that where you recommend drilling?

whoa. don't drill. run the line from the battery, inside the driver side quarter panel, and into the car through the door grommet. then runs the lines under the door sills, and take out the read bench. pretty easy that way, with no drilling.

Read bench is "Rear bench" if I'm not mistaken. You can take out the whole bottom peice from the backseat if you just lift it up in the front.

whoops. yeah, that's REAR bench. door grommet is that rubber plug that runs from the front door seam on the outside of the frame, to the inside of the car. all you have to do is poke a little hole, and feed it through.

I'm assuming you left enough power cable to reach the battery without crossing over the hot parts on the engine...

If you bought a cable kit, you should have round gold clip that you squeeze onto some exposed power cord. This goes over the positive battery connection. Then put your regular positive lead over that.

You should have an in-line fuse somewhere on the power cable. Most people put it in the engine compartment, but mine is right before the amp.

Don't forget to run a ground wire inside your trunk. Anyone know a good place for that? I haven't finished installing my subs either.

you should always, ALWAYS, put the fuse closest, as close as possible, to the battery. this will prevent burning out your wire since the fuse will blow long before the wire can pull any current. if you put the fuse at the other end, the wire will be able to draw excess current, melting the entire wire before you can blow the fuse.

ground wire can be attached to any bolt in the trunk connected to the chassis. there's a bolt under the carpet over the gas tank that i used, just make sure the contact is nice and clean (sand it down first) and ground all connections to the same point.

This may be a stupid question, but how did you guys connect the power wire itself to the battery? did you just clamp it in there? did you solder it to the ring? did you buy something else? i guess i can just try clamping it in tight, but that doesnt sound too safe. lemme know
