So...as the title says...what can you guys tell me about the JL 12W7? I'v eheard its basically the end all be all of 12's. How good is it?

It prolly the best sub ive ever owned and prolly the best u can buy for the lowest cleanest bass and good response.

 

i think tha sub is good but over rated and over priced!!! you can get some better with the money!

 

its a great sub but not the end all be all of 12's...

 

Supposedly the Alpine Type-X is a good one to give the W7 a run. There are other cheaper solutions out there that will sound just as good. In a Lancer, a W7 is overkill. I worked with a guy that had one in the back of his Eclipse and blew out the rear windows, windshield, and sunroof seals in about a years time with it. Be prepared.

 

omg.. i actually have 2 15" subs in my trunk. should i be worried. im actually thinkg of getting 2 12's insted the jl 12's

 

i think theyre like the "eleanor" of subs... but definitely over-priced!

 

Interesting. Thanks guys. So if a W7 is overkill in a lancer. What would you guys reccomend? I'm also looking at getting a 12W6 or 2 as well.

 

Get 1 Alpine Type X... Look at them closely, that was going to be my original plan.

 

Well...I just checked Ebay and there is multiple listings for Type X's by the pair for less then what one is supposed to retail for. By less I mean half of what it retails for.
Not sure if thats a good sign or not.

From what I've been told, a 12W7 will basically own a pair of most other subs. I don't know how true this is, but I think I may pay the price for admission and find out.

But keep the feedback coming guys, its definitely need as this will be my first high end car stereo install.

 

^ Yeah, I really wanted a pair as well... Until I heard one at Tweeters. My friend, sales guy there, say they pushed that thing so hard they broke the MDF panel they had that thing sitting in... Only using a 500.1 amp. But just think what that's going to do to your trunk/car with two in their properly powered? LOL

 

well how bout a comparison on kicker l7 solobereks vs. 12w7's. im lookin at gettin the kickers but if i can get the jl's at cost i will go for those

 

i got only one alpine x on my lancer its way good. dotn waste your money with jl. just make sure if you get an type x alpine to get a good amp. right now my x takes up to 1800 watts easily.

 

^Oh God, and that's even push'em yet... He's right! If I hadn't decided to go with matching Polk Momos, I would have got one and rocked it.

 

I have to disagree with "wasting your money with JL", but that's just my opinion.

I have to ask though...what type of 1800 watt amp are you running?
