Passport 8500

Hey guys,

When it comes to radar detectors, I think honestly that Valentine1 is the best but what do you guys think about the passport 8500.

I am getting it for $250 brand new 2007 model w/red LED of course.

I mean I know valentine1 promotes their directional arrow thing and rear radar detection but is it really better and worth the $400 or will this $250 be good enough.

BTW I am a speeder, I can't go slow but I have been trying lately but I just wanna have something to help me slow down.

Thanks,

had the 8500 loved it to death, great little item. But do NOT leave it i nthe car all the time, those things do not like temp changes or sitting in the sun, they will cook and stop working right. Take it with you when you leave the car for a long period of time. Im assuming the one you got is the X50 ?

it is fine if you are doing city driving (or highway) when the officers are using radar, but if they are using laser... forget it, your detector will go off alerting you to pretty much pull over bc they have your speed locked in

the only real defense against laser detection is a laser jammer which can get expensive (more than the 400 valentine). I actually had the escort passport x50 (the same as yours) and got pulled over because of laser

Like I said, works great for detecting radar up to 2 miles out, but neither the valentine nor the escort is going to help much with the laser...

Check this out (a nice product from Escort)
or This One (Blinder M20 Xtreme)

I haven't bought it yet, just thinking about it. The body shop I am dropping it off at does all the custom stuff and have an indoor showroom as well.

Make sure you talk to Larry and mention my name and my car of course and see if he hooks you up.

Is x50 a model of the 8500?

Yes, they dont like extreme temp changes which can happen inside a closed car.

The Valentine One is still #1 according to the latest independent unbiased radar detector test.

the temp change would explain why my detector quit working randomly.. chaos speaks the truth... good luck on finding your right detector.

don't get the cobra unless you already have a valentine and just wanna waste money, but I'm sure there is enough other stuff you could use the money for

Wow thats weird. I got mine around January, and loved it. But after it's in the car for a while, it beeps to every ****ing thing. I mean, it stays on all the time. I have to keep pushing the mute bottom.

So I would take it with you like Walkingchaos said so. But overall, I loved it. Great reputation about it, and worth the $$$
