building a new sub box

i have some cheap pre made boxes that are for my 2 10's, they are in seperate boxes. its just what i got from a friend. i feel they will sound a little better in one box thats well made. ive been reading up on how to make them and jsut about every place is saying use fiberboard cause of the density. what about solid 2x4's? i have some left over from building a deck. so i was thinking of making a box with them. is it just a stupid idea? i know noting about subs and that. thanks for the info.

I would highly advise against it. Sure it would be fairly solid, but it would weigh a ton and not be as airtight as you want. You'd do better to just used true MDF to make one, or do a bit of fiberglass work.

yeah, just buy a sheet of MDF at Lowes for $30 and you'll have all you'll need for 10s. Of course, that'd depend on the boxes; but I used one sheet of 3/4ths inch MDF for two 1sq ft sealed boxes for my Polk Momos...

They'll know what you are talking about. It's almost like a composite would but very fine. That's what most people use and it works great. Sounds good too. 2x4s would be horrible, not even talking about the weight.

The 2x4's will only be good as supports for when you fibreglass.... Other then that, MDF is the best. I have a cheap box for now out of MDF I made and carpeted, that is until I grow some ***** and start my glassing project..... LOL
