Check Engine Light !?!?

So after I installed my amp and sub my check engine light came on. I ran the power wire good, through the firewall, through the car, into the trunk. I have a good ground in the trunk. My amp is only rated 250 peak power. Not like it's a beast or anything. But I was wondering if you have to have one of them capacitators. I do not have one, and that is the only thing I can think that it would be. I unhooked the battery and took the fuse out of the power wire, and the light went off. Then I put the fuse back in, and about 50 miles later my light came on. I also have a short ram intake, and I had never unhooked the battery to reset the ECU until I installed the stereo. I have no idea if that has anything to do with it, but any help would be appreciated. Anyone else experience this?

You shouldn't need a cap with such little wattage and ampage draw. Sounds like the positive wire is grounding out and shoots a bad signal back to the battery brain.
