Amp Wiring

Hey there...I am installing an amp right now in my car and have forgotten whether it matter if i run the RCA cables and 4 gauge power cable parallel to each other down the side of the car. Does this cause interference? I can't remember...Thanks!!

Run them as far from each other as possible.

for how much power the amp needs. i have 10 gauge, which is the lowest, but if you had a really powerful amp, you would get lower, up to 0 gauge.

well cause what im planning to do is this.
i currently have a head unit right now with a 200watt 2 channel(bridge to one sub) amp. its pretty lame. but when i saw the guys install my stuff. they putt the rca.(red and white cable) and a red power cord thats connected to the battery together. im planning to just replace my 200watt amp to a 800 or 600 watt amp with the original wires that the installer installed my 200watt amp.
can i do a complete swap or i also need a new power cord.(mainly cause ill be using a more powerfull amp?)

You need new power cable to run the higher powered amp and you need to seperate the power cable from the RCA's to eliminate any interferance or engine noise whistling through your speakers

actually it depends on how large your cable is, and you probably don't need a new one if it was 10 gauge and you're only moving up to 600w...for 800w I might move up to an 8 gauge...

Assuming you are mounting the amp in the trunk, I'd go with 4 gauge power cable, if the amp is a good quality, honestly rated amp. My reasoning is the distance the power has to travel compared to the cross section of the cable. I can't remember the formula for determining which size cable to use, but for this length, go with 4 gauge. It's better to have too big a wire in this case, rather than too small. That way you're not starving the amp for power at higher levels. Just my 2 cents.

Get a 4 guage power cable. You can pick up a 4 gauge amp kit with all the wires and fitting and fuses that you would need for like $22. They are cheap, but very high quality...I have actually installed 3 amp using them and have found nothing better. Have fun! I just installed all the wiring on my amp today...came out real well! Just make sure you run the RCA cable down the opposite side of the car as your power cable...not even a triple shielded RCA cable would be able to block all the electrical noise from a 4 guage power cable...good luck!
