Is it me or does my 650W system too quiet?
I am not sure if anyone elses system sounds like mine but when my Rockford Fosgate system is turned up (I think 35 is the max volume setting.), it does not sound very loud for supposedly being a 650 watt system. Do you guys notice the same thing? I took out my stock Amp to look for some sort of gain adjustment but there are no Potentiometers internally or externally to adjust. The Amp is basically driven or controlled by Integrated Circuits and of course controlled by the head unit.
ive never heard wut the fosgate sounds like in the new lancers..but honestly you might be expecting too much out of one 10" rockford that mitsubishi put in..'
650w system is prolly the peak rating so no your not talkin a very loud speaker..
if you want loud you have to go aftermarket and do your own thing....
oh and i would not recommend turning your volume setting to the maximum at any time..just asking for blown speakers and that can't sound good

and 650 is probably all speakers radio and amp added together
so it could be pushin say
50 for radio
150 for amp
37 for say 8 speakers
and another 150 for woofer
walla max wattage 650, rms prolly somewhere around 325
so yea not very loud cause you prolly paid like 3k for the system when you can get something better and louder for less than 1g

J, the 10" actually hits pretty good but all speakers combined just dont sound that loud. Maybe I am just going deaf from all those years of cranking my stereo and concerts. By the way, if they blow then I will go get them replaced through the
warranty.

Yeah, I paid the extra money for the Nav, DVD, Bluetooth, Car Function control and Music server and the factory look. It might not be a good purchase for some but it was worth it to me.

I guess I could do the same but then I will lose all the features that come with the Nav head unit.

All newer cars are coming with some good sound systems. Ours does seem a little quiet at times, when i ride with the windows down and the sunroof open, it gets hard to hear the 650 watt system. My 2 cents.

have you tried adjusting the setting in the Audio Control menu? there is a "Punch Bass" setting that you can turn up. after installing car audio and security for 5 years and building some pretty mean bass machines this system lacks a lot. it is however a decent system for the average joe. i am more of a "Sound Q" person now and the speaker arrangement isnt bad.
side note.... here is a brief list of my favorites we built;
'06 Dodge Ram extended cab 8- 15s (boss's truck)
'91 Nissan Sentra 10-10s (my car)
'99 Dodge Neon 4-15s (sales guy's car)
'87 Chevy S-10 2-18s (master installers truck)
'97 Chevy Tahoe 12-12s (customer)
'95 Chevy 1500 24-6s (yes i said 6s and 24 of them.....customer)

I just purchased an 09 GTS a couple weeks ago, and I will agree that the system is a tad quiet in most cases.
I've been installing custom stereos in cars for a long time, and I generally prefer to do my own thng when it comes to a stereo. With the rockford system I figured it would not be as good as anything I could build, but I still expected pretty good sound.
I will say the system sounds pretty damn good for a stock system. HOWEVER.
There's some damn volume adjuster that auto adjusts the levels to prevent blowing the speakers. The problem with this is you can have the volume at 35, and if there's a 2 second pause in a song, the first thing you hear is like the volume is at 45, and it slowly drops to adjust to a level that will not blow the speakers. Then if you turn it up to about 43, it's nice and loud, but then if there's any quietness, I'm afraid that it would actually blow something due to this stupid auto volume leveler.
All I want to know is, where is this auto volume leveling POS, because I want it out.
BTW for aftermarket stereo with the stock headunit, check out the JL Audoi CLeansweep or something similar. It's a really nice product. I put one in a custom stereo I did for my Boss's 06 Z06 Corvette last summer. It made it really easy to get better control of the EQ levels from the stock deck since, in many cases, the deck is what actually controls specific levels to keep from blowing speakers...

Something I found is the actual audio file. I noticed when burning a cd, there was an option to increase the magnitude of the file, so I put it up a little bit because I didn't want to kill the quality. When I put that CD into my nav and put the volume up, I thought I might actually blow the speakers. There was enough punch where the front windshield started to vibrate and cause slight blurriness through it
I took the volume down myself cuz it was a little to loud. From now on, im def gonna try to record my cds at a higher volume/magnitude.

webman: if you press and hold the left knob in it will bring up another menu. i dont remeber off the top of my head how to cycle through it but one of them says SVC turn it to off. that should take care of your problem.
Also another option would be MTX's REQ5 but with that you need to do a 4ch amp for your interiors and then a sub amp. havent used one myself, but the MTX Cobalt came to my shop and was playing off the factory HU using it, and it was insane. http://www.mtxrides.com/Ride.aspx?ID...d13a47f7b&sts=

For the average joe, I think that the system is adequate. I bought my 08 GTS as my daily driver that I can take out and have fun with when I want to. For someone who likes to listen to music loud, but not distorted, this system is fine for my ears.
However, I did do some tweaking to the equalizer settings. Once I did all of that, I've been really happy with it. But then again, maybe I'm just an old fart.
