sound sytem makeover
hey all fist off i have been lurking around here for a few weeks and decided to finally post something up. my GF just got an 08 gts and i am planning to re-do the sound system. she got a pretty good deal on it just for the fact that the previous owner tore up the sound system on it 1) am i missing anything?
2)sense i am not going for huge power will i need a second battery or should i just upgrade the one that is under the hood.
3)by going with this system (instead of just putting the factory system back together) will i be loosing any of the special fetures in the factory navi due to the signal suming.
4)is it worth it to make this big of an upgrade?
after i get some help and finally pull the trigger on this thing ill be full documenting the progress for all to see. ill make sure to include pictures of the various faces im sure to get as i start tearing ino my GFs new baby lol.thanks for any info anybody can provide.
Hey dude, whatsup? My name is Joe and i am a certified Technician for Mobile Audio/Video. Here are my recommendations/opinions on you audio project.
1) am i missing anything?
From what i can see you are not really missing anything needed for a quality/complete install. One thing you have to remember to pickup is a line-out connector to plug the RCA's for the amp to (unless the factory navi has them already). Be sure to unplug your battery before install of any wires or even the removal of the radio. (some 2008/2009 lancer radio's fry out on reconnection of radio harness due to a high voltage power surge)
2)sense i am not going for huge power will i need a second battery or should i just upgrade the one that is under the hood.
You should not need second battery, one battery should be sufficient enough seeing as you are going to run a compacitor. If anything (if you end up having loss of power in your stock wiring system try either a bigger compaciter or bigger battery. Optima batteries are awsome for large sound systems.
3)by going with this system (instead of just putting the factory system back together) will i be loosing any of the special fetures in the factory navi due to the signal suming.
No, you will not lose any of the special features that are linked to the factory Navi by installing an aftermarket sound system.
4)is it worth it to make this big of an upgrade?
This is a question you have to ask yourself. It's all in the eye of the beholder. If you want crisp clear audio with some bass, then by all means go for it. If you dont really care about sound quality or bass then my recommendation would be to just stick a set of low end components and low end full range in the car and be done with it.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I will try to answer any questions you may have.
I Recently just installed a couple subwoofers in my car, check them out, maybe youll get some ideas.

hey thanks for the info.i just ordered all the equipment and am waiting to get it the mail. you setup looks pretty clean. mine wil be alot more agressive but blean as well. when you ran the power from the battery were you able to find a spot on the firewall that you could use or did you end up having to make a new one your self? sense im gonna use the 3-sixty.1 sound processor with the signal suming do you know if the little voice for the ni will be coming out of all the speakers or will it still just come out of the tweeter on the drivers door?

1.)
with the RF 360.1 system you should not need a Line Output Converter
the sytem should take car of that since is a factory integrating system.
3.)
you will lose some tuning functions.
such as the punch level and everything since the bass will be controlling your subwoofer as well
but then this is where the 360.1 saves the day with its awesome tuneability
hope i helped
and also Khoranic i have a similar set-up with the 2 12's in the middle and he a wall
but i also have 2 tens on the sides and a amp sunken in the floor with plexiglass
and i also added a mitsubishi logo the the trunk that lit up blue and was made of plexiglass
thanks for the info i cant wait to get started on this project. the stuff should be here by the end of the week so i should be able to start next week ( its sucks to have to work on the weekend). the one thing that i havent decided on yet is if im gonna use the RF amp wiring kit or another brand. oh and sofla i saw your install on another thread and i like it. how is the finished product sounding?
