Quick question for you guys...
I'm trying to design my new trunk at the moment. My car is a daily driver, and I do use my trunk to put some crap.
My Sub, Jensen XS1212, requires 1 cubic foot for optimal performance. Because I want to save space, I would like to make the box slimmer, but wider. I would make the box 1 inch deeper than the sub itself, and make the box much wider, and keep the specified 1 cubic foot.
My questions are the following: Will I affect my max output, if I make it larger than deeper? Will I destroy my sub if I put the back wall 1 inch away from the magnet?
I'll post a drawing of what I'm talking about, pretty shortly

Sub's amp on the left side, and component's amp on the right side.
Right side would be clamped with door thing so I can twist it, and put my back seat down on that side
I'll post a pic of the whole design when I go home.

Not really, because the the amp that will be on the left side will sorta be inside the box. So I'll be loosing some space over that.
And I won't have any airspace on the right side, because that part will be seperated from the rest so I can move it back and forth to use my folded seat.

Here's a quick example of how it would be. I'm at work, so I don't have access to fancy design software right now. All I have is Microsoft Paint, so don't bother with the uglinest of this picture
well .. seems that if you are going to build a box that wide, you may want to think about building an amp rack into it so that you can store your amp in there as well? just for ****s and giggles, here's the box I use in my trunk. it originally came outa my jeep wrangler, but fits well into the rear of the lancer trunk.
You may also want to think about maybe using the side walls and build a custom box into that to hold your sub? that would make it outa the way, allow for storage and still bizump.

Youre box design is sound, long as it meets the 1 cubic foot requirments of the sub. If i were you i'd put some kind of grille on it cuz its a daily driver, i've seen stuff go through subs and watched men cry over money wasted. we got a single bandpass 10" in our lancer and it slumps just fine, bandpass all the way, because of the trunk i think, sounds better. I blew a $300 Polk MOMO 12" in the trunk because it wanted a sealed box and it just pounded too hard for the small trunk. Port the top of the trunk if you have to.
