have the subs facing the trunk lid with the bottom of the box against the back of the seat. its called bass reflex i think and its the best position for subs in a 4 door car with a trunk..

I am not quite sure which was is BEST, but in my experience .. i tried them both facing towards and away .. and decided to lay the box on its back and have them facing up. For my box and my subs, this produced the best sound and best bass thumps.

One of the audio experts should be able to chime in here

i also had my one 12w7 facing up more towards the back of the car...not towards the backs of the rear seats. mainly cuz the box when laid on the side seems very unstable...even when mounted.

I haven't giving it much thought, but it is something I am going to experiment with. All though if I have the subwoofer facing towards the back of the seat, who ever rides in the backseat is going to get a hell of a back massage, also I could open the seats up and let more of the sound come into the cabin of the car. To me, it should produce a better sound facing up or towards the back of the trunk.

it doesnt matter, sub frequency below 0hz is a unidirectional sound, as long as it is not covered, it will sound the same (volume could change) but resonance response is identical in all poisitions

facing the subwoofer towards the trunk allows bass reverberation. the more walls the bass hits the harder it hits. such as bandpass enclosures. the bass hits the back of the box then goes out through the holes and thus hitting harder. i have a bandpass enclosure and its pointed towards the trunk lid. the bass hits the back of the box then hits the trunk lid and boom.
