How hard is it to put a new radio in the Lancer??

How hard is it to put a new radio in the Lancer??
I have an 09 GTS. I have the cd/mp 3 deck and of course the radio controls in the steering wheel.
I'm wanting XM radio. Would it be easier to add an XM receiver and display to my current radio or install a new XM ready radio?
If I put an aftermarket XM radio in will my steering wheel controls still work?
Also, do you have to buy a whole new center dash piece so that a bigger radio will fit?
