Initially I was going to go with a 1000/1 JL (all of my system is JL Audio). But after talking to a few audio dealers around town I heard that the 1000/1 is quite a rip off for the quality. I was wondering if anyone out there is powering the 12w7 with a non JL amp and what are your thoughts.


I heard that Planet Audio makes a good amp for that power range and it was around 400 bucks. (cant beat that)

 

how about a phoenix gold ti amplifier or diamond audio if money isn't an issue.

 

about the JL amps. I'm not a JL hog, i don't love their stuff. but, it's honestly not THAT much of a rip off. the reason the 1000/1, the 500/1 and all of the slash series amps are so expensive is because they have regulated power sources. meaning:

most amps put out different power at 4 ohms, 2 ohms and 1 ohm

example:

Memphis MC1000d
250 x 1 @ 4 ohms
500 x 1 @ 2 ohms
1100 x 1 @ 1 ohm

JL 1000/1 is regulated, meaning
1000 x 1 @ 4 ohms
1000 x 1 @ 2 ohms
1000 x 1 @ 1.4 ohms

AND... it puts that power out at ANY voltage level, whether it's a weak 10-11 volt system all the way upto a high-powered 14 volt system. most other amps only put out the rated power at 14.4 volts, which is quite hard to achieve. hope this helped!
