what about MB quarts or Boston Acoustics? I'm particularly partial to the Bostons. I'm sure you can get some on ebay for pretty cheap. Same with the MB quarts. And they'll both sound AWESOME. Better than the Alpines or Infinitys (depending on which components you are looking at of course...) IMO.

Not really a bg audiobahn fan, but Quarts and Boston Acoustics...are probaly the best, unless you have one of them accounts where the money never runs out, and if so, Id check out CDT audio..

Try listening to European brand speakers. Try FOCAL! They're the BEST, IMO.

I agree with tanders that possibly the best component set on the market right now is the Focal Utopia line. Although CDT High Definition set gives it a very serious comp at much lower costs. Best line HD-642 set of CDT costs ~ 500 or if you want check out OZAudio's component set. OZAudio's components scored a perfect score in either a 2000 or 2001 IASCA Sound Quality test.

the strokers do have the dB records but they don't hold the SQ records which I think if someone is merely replacing stock speakers they aren't going to be desiring a SPL comp win.

well he didnt specify if it was in stock location or not. im just saying that the strokers are the best for db's. you dont need to be in competitions to want to have the best db speakers. just my opinion though. what are some of the best sq speakers?

MB's are a great sounding unit but if you don't have a dealer near you it make some time to ship. Another great set of components is Planet's NEO series these are an outstanding set of speakers. I had them in my ACURA with 3 10" Digital Design's they put out an outstanding performance. If you can find some I would definetly reccomend them

Just because a speaker can hit higher dBs doesn't always mean that it sounds better than other speakers .. it just gets louder. Focal Utopia, OZAudio, and CDT EuroSport line are IMHO the best sounding component sets on the market today. They are also among the more expensive side. Infinity Kappa Perfect components are great components if you dont plan on playing much rock. They are great for techno/rap/hip hop but lack in the lower mid bass that rock needs. MB Quartz are decent for the money, but you can get very very good sounding MBs but then again they are just as expensive as the previous 4 brands I listed then. In conclusion: Focal (Utopia series), OZAudio, and CDT (EuroSport series) are the best SQ IMHO.
