All this info is very helpfull, but i've yet to come across a trick to remove the manual window handle. I've hunted for a hidden screw or a clip of some sort but cant find. I've also tried a shop towel behind it and a little elbow grease, this normally works, still nuttin. Can some one out there help me out.

If you push in the the door panel, and pull out on the handle you will see a gold color clip, I gave the clip a push with a standard screwdriver and the handle can flying off

I've always done this with a shop towel stuffed in behide, but for some reason I had to use a screwdriver this time

Good Luck !!!!

Speaker Upgrade for Evolution

Does anyone know if there are good speakers that will fit into the Lancer Evolution.

I was told that the Infinity Kappa 652.5 2-way speekers will only fit into the front.

I would like to use the Infinity for the front and rear.

I would not like to use the Alpine SPS-170A 2-way speekers for the rear or even all around.

Any help would be great!

Stereo Upgrade!

What model focals would fit into the Lancer Evolution? The head unit I have is a Pioneer DEH-P7600MP.

http://store.yahoo.com/letsgodigital/dehp7600mp.html

I love the desk as it is a great unit for under $200.

The install was simple and I got the harness from crutchfield to make it easy.

I am getting the Infinity BaseLink to go in the trunk next.

^ bump with new info.

Installed a set (4) of alpine sps-170a speakers tonight. The adapter plates supplied with the speakers will NOT fit without modification. You must clip off one of the "universal" mounting points on the outer edge of each adapter ... it's the one that looks like a hook. The rest are eyelet style and are ok.

You will also only be able to mount the adapter in 3 of the 4 stock screw holes for each speaker. You will also need to use the FRONT stock screws on the back parcel deck for the adapters, AND you will need to drill out 2 of the 3 holes on the adapter plate (plastic) so you can get these screws through. For the front speakers, use the supplied screws (long ones) that came with the speakers. Don't even try to use the clips they give you.

Lastly, the wires are totally different colors on each corner of the car, I have no idea which is which... and I really don't feel like pulling all that **** apart to find out! The rear deck stock wiring harness is painfully short, so clip it REAL close to the speaker connector.

Tools you need:

small and medium phillips
tiny or very sharp/thin flat head
wire strippers
small needle nose plyers (easy to remove stock speaker connectors w/ these)
small or medium plyers (for rear speaker grill clips)
a drill w/ small bit (if you have to mod the speaker adapter plates)

solder gun and electrical tape (or heat shrink tubing if you really want to do it right)
or
speaker connector adapters from crutchfield or wherever you find them (search on reg. 4 speaker lancer)

Oh yeah, and a threshold for pain in your finger tips!

And when you pop the cover off the door handle screw (the cup handle, the one you grab to close the door) close your freakin eyes -- that thing attacked me!!

if you get the connectors from crutchfield, you don't need to worry about clipping or soldering anything. and also don't need to worry about the crazy colors for the wires...
