How to add a DVD player into the lower console of the dash

Ok here’s the deal…. I bought a nice system and wanted to add a dvd player in the center console. I bought the service manual for the Lancer 2002 and saw that there was a part that you could put in the lower pocket right below the aircon switch. But when I called one dealer he said no…. you’ll have to buy the whole thing. The whole thing was the indash cd changer that attaches to the stock stero. Strike one! I went to another dealer who looked it up and….. yep you guessed it. It was the same part that was already in the car! STRIKE 2! So another guy came out and said, “Oh you want that part?” “It’s on this page.” HOME RUN! I bought that part which was only around 24 dollars and put in my dvd/mp3 player in it. Mobile Audio from Fry’s only cost me 200 bucks! Buy the warranty! I burnt out the power supply and got it easy exchanged!

Here’s the part info:
Ask the dealer for diagram 88401
The part number is 73108z

Dumb question time, but why do people want dvd players and tv's in there car? Now I can understand it in a van to keep the kids quiet on a long road trip, but in a sport compact, I can't figure it out.

Actually, I’ve taken the car on the road long driving. I’ve been to Las Vegas twice and San Diego once. It also has a navigation system so I don’t get lost around my area. It’s really helpful.

I forgot about the navigation systems, that part makes sense.

an arm and a leg. I worked with a company that gave me a HUGE discount. The nav unit was 1500 alone...the screen about the same... the dvd 200 and the mp3 changer 300 bucks

Ok, so that part # is for an adapter plate that goes where there is that little pocket is below the HVAC controls, and allows you to put in a DIN sized cd/dvd player? Can't really tell from those pics, they're kinda fuzzy looking to me hehe.

The DVD player that you placed below the AC controls, is that DIN sized or is that smaller?
