and one thing..........why would i need to replace the factory head unit if it has a cd player ne ways

Eww not Sony. Lets put it this way. If you can buy it at Pep Boys, Canadian Tire, Future Shop, Walmart, Best Buy, Cosco, Zellers, K-Mart or anyother chain department store do you really want it. Sure its a good price but they dont specialize in that stuff and therefor most of their staff have limited knowledge. Their products are bought on price pointing not on whats good or not.

Do yourself a favour and go to a Car Audio Shop...or even better go to a Car Audio Installer, talk to the installers first hand, get all your information and then buy your stuff.

Support the little guy, you will get the best service that way. (By little guy I mean Private Store) They need the money more and therefor will work harder to make you happy. Which is #1

don't buy stuff from big stores? even pep boys and walmart carry pioneer, who make some of the better head units out there. same with best buy.

but, anyways, i'm with you guys on the anti-sony thing. i've never liked their stuff.

Not any of their stuff there stereo stuff. I wouldnt buy rims from Canadian Tire either though.

They dont carry the companies best stuff. Its like going to a department store to buy a Snowboard or Skis. Its fine for Joe adverage but anyone who really uses the equipment needs to find something better. They carry a product line that "suits everyone" and who is everyone...no one here, Trust me if you want your stereo to really sound good and last a while go to a Car audio speciality store and talk to the workers. They will be honest with you (90% of the time, there is exceptions for really crappy stores that wont last) You will be much hapier.

If you dont really care that much and just want a bit of base over your stock stereo then go to walmart and buy a jension system.

And remember stores that cater to everyone and many different markets dont carry high end stuff...They wont be able to sell it. (in most cases)

Ive liked sonys head units but thats about it, speakers absolutely suck, for speakers i would recommend infinitys, they are extremely clear, i gotta rockford sub and i like that as well, im also not looking to win any sound offs or nething either it all just depends on what kind of set up ur really lookin for

now, danno, i know for a fact that most big chain stores don't carry brands' higher end stuff. but, if you were to step into a circuit city you can EASILY pick up a high-end alpine or pioneer. yes, i know they are THE highest, but are close. for instance at CC they offer every alpine up until the 9831 (which is more than most people could need for any kind of stereo). with pioneer at circuit city they offer everything up until the deh-8600 which is also an incredible radio ($500). both the alpine and pioneer offer a ridiculous amount of features and are killer head units.

and, about goin to smaller shops to get good advice on things, think again. most smaller shops are out to make a killing on your wallet. circuit city and best buy DO NOT work on commission, so what they sell makes no difference to them. at smaller shops, what they sell is the most important thing. so, if they sell you a super high-end head unit for 700 bucks, it'll get them a nice cut of the money. or, if they wanted to be helpful they could sell you a head unit that you would actually need for a more reasonable price.

i know i'm just ranting right now, but in your last post you came at me with a tone like i didn't know a thing about car audio and how to shop around for it. trust me, i know my fair share and i do my own research on anything i buy before i buy it; i don't let a saleperson make the choice for me.
