Speakers: Is anything better than stock?

Just wondering, I got an Eclipse deck but I still got the stock speakers. And I dont plan to get any subs or amps. Would it be good to assume that Id get better clarity/bass and sound with just about any aftermarket speakers? The reason I ask Ive read up on some speakers I should get, but the place I go to buy may be limited in selection. And I dont wanna get too fussy picking out which is best is to buy.

Also, these adaptors that you have to use to mount the speakers on(6.5-->6.75?) Would they sell those at just about any place that does installations like A&B Sound, car toys, or even Best Buy?

Anything is better than stock in the sense that they will be able to handle more power than the stock speakers will. And as for adaptors, I remedied that situation by using zip ties to center and anchor down my aftermarket ones. I have MB Quart components up front and MB Quart 6.5s in the back, all zipped down and not a single rattle.

Meh, I just bought a set of some Alpine component type S'(I think 6.5 in the front and 6x9 in the back) 300 bucks installed(getting them installed tommorow)

I wonder if it'll make a big difference.

How are the 6x9s gonna be installed in the rear? Did you get boxes for them to sit above where the stock speakers are?

I have another question, Im new to this stuff. Do they keep the stock grills/covering for the speakers? should I worry about dust?

The front speakers are covered by the front door. The rear speakers have coverings but your new ones should come with covers as well.

Ok, I decided for 6.5's all around instead.

I gotta say Im pretty disappointed in the sound.

The quality is noticably much better, theres things in the background that I could hear that I never knew even existed. Everything is just sharper and cleaner.

But the bass has gone down considerably, everythings just weaker. I put the sound setting to '50' on the eclipse deck which is pretty loud. When my little sister came by she said' thats on 50? it sounds like its on 40' - referring to when I had my stock speakers on. This isnt just a 'its all in your head' thing either, I can usually see my rear view and side view mirrors vibrate on most songs, now it only does it on some songs.

Oh well, I did get it at dealer price so Im not complaining.. too much. Maybe it'll sound better after the break in period...

I went with 6.5 Focal speakers all the way around sounds awesome I also have an Eclipse deck (55060) I use a JL amp to power the speakers and the Sound quality is terrific.

arm07 speakers are for mid range sound tweeters for high range get some subs bass is what they are made for.

Yep. Although I like the amount of bass I can squeeze out of my MB Quarts, I can't wait to get my trunk setup done so I can have my 10 hooked up.

Hmm the speakers sound much better now than they did yesterday, guess this 'breaking it in' stuff itsnt a myth after all.

Still though I was expecting a little more thump. You guys are right, but It'll take me awhile to get that JL sub and amp though(I wont settle for anything else)

yeah... aftermarket speakers will always sound better. if you ever get em, be sure to get some kind of amp to power them as well. your headunit can only do so much and you will most likely not use the aftermarket speakers to their full potential.

Its weird, from the start I knew that new speakers didnt really do much in terms of adding bass. But then I went on sound domain and started reading some reviews and they all made it out like adding in new speakers was like adding in 5 inch subs..
