Trunk setup and speaker problem questions

So, here is my setup before i rant

1 12w7 in ported box built to JL spec
JL Xr components in the front
JL XR coaxials in the back
300/4
500/1 (will go to a 1000/1 soon enough, so don't ask OMG WHY 500/1 )

So, I tore out all my wiring this weekend and re-wired the system using a smaller gauge wire and installed the crossovers for the components in the glovebox. (looks nice). I had to rewire because I used this ****ty thick wire and I was having issues keeping the running board things staying down.

I stared at my f'ing trunk for like 2 hours trying to devise a good amp rack solution. Since I only have 1 12 i dont have a nice symetrical 2 12 setup with a wide box. I am thinking about fabricating an amp rack for the letft side of the trunk. Anyone have suggestions on how to do this?

Also, my front right speaker is cutting out now and then. I have yet to pull the wires and lay new ones from the crossover to the tweater and woofer, but i did check the connections to see if they were good. Does this sound like a blown speaker? How can i troubleshoot it and find out?

What guage wire did you use?

You could do a few things - False floor would give you a spot to mount everything and have it hidden but would make you lose your spare tire and you'd have to fiberglass the tub.

You could also build the MDF box and mount the amps to the back of the seat. This doesnt' really work in our cars because the amps are too big for the seat (usually).

I think that the best thing in your situation would be to build a false floor - just MDF and Just the top plate to hold your amps. Countersink them and hinge a section so you can get at your spare. I think this is the most space-conciencous way of doing it and the 2nd best looking IMHO. First would be the full false floor.

Take a 9V battery (square) and touch the ends of the battery to the ends of the speaker wire at your crossover - this would tell you if your wires are loose. A blown speakers should make some noise still. If you dont get noise from the battery bumping the wire, then pull your door panel. I'm not sure - do our JL speakers have fuses in the crossovers? Something tells me not, but I'm not quite sure - I'd make sure all your wires are solid first, then check that.

Hope this helps...Ask more questions if need be!
