piggy back ecu problems

I have had the piggyback ecu installed for almost a week now and so far it has not been a good thing. I have had problems with the engine rumbling on idle and the car jerking back and forth a little and today the worst happened, i was about to merge onto a street and the car just turned off by it self. The car simply turned off by itself without me doing anything, and i had to restart it, i have not had this problem before and it could have been serious if it had happened when i was driving on the street and could have been reerended. So far i havent had a chance to enjoy the purchase and am having second thoughts .

Give them a call. Possibility 1 is something went wrong in the installation (crossed wires, a short, etc.), and possibility 2 is there is a defect in it. either way, calling them will help you to figure out what's wrong. It shouldn't be doing that.

any of you guys experience differences in your cars after you installed the piggyback ecu as far as how it runs in idle? I mean is just exactly as it was before or is the engine shake a little bit more and are does your exhaust sound a bit different.

02-03 guys have the idle problem and it was agreed that to get the power then the idle must be sacrifice. your idle might be a little bumpy and the rpm will dip here and there, rrm said it was ok.

If I'm not mistaken, only Vers.2 of the piggyback has the idle issue. In your case I would defenetly go over your connections including battery connections before doing anything else. I had a problem at first and it turn out my soldering abilities weren't the best.

during idle my car blatently misfires with the PB ECU. without it...no misfire. in the long run it is not a big deal. i have hat my car stall out twice mid-turn while the PB was still learning (on 2 seperate occassions)...both of these times it was rainy and the air was super humid + thick...it sucks when you need to make a turn without power steering, power brakes, unexpectedly, in the rain. first check all of the connections then just call RRM if the problem continues.

At 35 miles my check engine light came on, i'm up to 120 mils on this thing and the light is still on. RRM said give it a day, but does this make sence to anyone else?

Yeah. You spliced in an imperfect piece of technology that fools your ECU.

Let the buyer beware...

Seriously, though - stick with talking to RRM. On the boards, you're going to get a billion different answers...

Saying the light is On is 1 thing. Telling us the code would be something else.

I don't believe it will just shut off by itself, once it comes on it stays on until you get the code pulled and cleared. Just take the car to any big name auto parts store and they should do it for free.

Turns out it is a "random misfire" and there's no fixing that

random misfire at idle? that is common. as long as it goes away when some throttle is applied don't worry about it. otherwise, let me know if you are missing still, when, etc. and i'll help you out. PM me if you are having any other problems with misfire.
