Might be dumb...

Okay this might sound a bit stupid, but it makes sense to me...check this....I was thinking about installing a turbo timer on my car. Now I know what you are all thinking, its N/A. I know, but a turbo timer does so much more. Quite honestly I dont really know why its called a turbo timer...you can install it on an n/a car. But anyway, it displays A/F ratio, voltage, O2 reading and of course a timer. so the timer would be good, and with the a/f ratio I could get rid of the gauge I have tucked in the cubby whole and Ive wanted a voltage guage for some time now. plus there are times where I drive really hard and figure that leaving the car running to cool down just for a little bit would be a good thing. BTW Im looking at the Apex'i Auto/Turbo Timer for those that want to know...so just let me know what you think and how hard it would be to install.

Why not get something like a S-AFC or Zeitronix unit to monitor these things? Unless you have an insanely highly modified NA engine I doubt your car needs to cool down. As for the initial D racing comment, take it to a track, only idiots race on the street.

^Like the man said, it won't hurt. Especially if you end up going the FI route later on.

Apexi calls their product an Auto Timer instead of Turbo Timer, so you can use it on a N/A car :P

Bite me.

Given that my RS just got a set of cams put in and it took me two weeks of tuning to get the car to idle right, I'm adding gauges just to make sure I have a good idea what's going on. I already have stuff in the dash and I don't like gauges on the steering column, so I grabbed my friend's old pillar with a double pod. If you think my oil pressure and voltage gauges are rice, then I say .

Is a voltage meter really nessessary? I got a gauge package from another EvoM member and it included a voltage meter. I was just gonna sell it off to some kid but now you made me think. Is it worth it taking up space?

It can be useful if you want to monitor power levels in the car, not too sure how useful it is for racing though. Plenty of people with big stereos get voltage meters though. The only thing that bugs me is when NA guys get boost gauges or narrowband AF gauges just cause they want some pretty needles in their car. Other than that I don't really care about gauges in a car, god knows if I was serious into racing I'd want to know as much about the condition of my car as possible.

It couldn't hurt. I had one in a previous car and it was nice because when my alternator died, I had some advance warning.

As the car gets older, batteries crap out, alternators die, ground wires corrode, etc. It's good to have an idea of how things are performing.

if you want to monitor the voltage, get a cool head unit like mine that way you can have the voltage meter as the background... as far as the a/f goes... does anyone know if this is actually wide-band? I am guessing that it is narrow-band though...
