missing, bad idle
missing, bad idle
Greetings all~
Have a quick question. I have recently done a basic tune-up on my recently purchased 02 OZ. Before the tune up it was "back-rapping", missing a lot, when idling down. It sounds kind of neat, but I know it's no good for performance and I can feel it surging with throttle. I am thinking it is probably mis-tuned for the mods that are on the engine and is probably running richer than it needs to be. With the absence of a distributor, I am looking for alternative ways to tweak the tune. I know of the piggybacks and software, but is there anything else to mess with the fuel delivery? Any suggestions on anything else to look at that might be causing this?
mods on the engine:
Short Ram INJEN CAI w/ ricer cone
Kamikaze header to full 2.25 exhaust w/ rice can
possibly a modded cam, though I am not sure...haven't dug that deep into it yet)
thanks
JT

check the plugs and the condition of the boots (on the coils as well).
you mentioned a tune up--what kind of plugs are in there, and what were they gapped at?
by "back-rapping", do you mean it's backfiring? i get a little bit of backfiring when i'm in the 4k range in 4th gear and i have to let off the throttle instead of shifting to 2nd. on my car it's pefectly normal and i don't have any issues with the engine.
you can play with the ECU via a piggyback, emanage, or ECUflash with a cable... among other things. those three are some of the bigger and more popular.

thanks for the info, plugs are autolite platinums gapped at .040 per the owners' manual. The wires and boots are new on the two that don't have the ICM units.
What is the most cost efficient way to tune this thing? Is it really the piggyback or greddy systems? I can't imagine that's the cheapest, most effective way to go?
Thanks again.
