CVT and non CVT ECU the same?

Hi guys I have a ralliart 2004 but I am trying to verify if the ECU from a 2008 lancer GTS with the CVT is the same as the non CVT model? The reason is because I want to buy a separate ECU for warranty purposes. ANy help !!?

i think its different. the match up might be different due to revisions made to this platform.
if you check with Jatco they might be able to confirm this. Jatco is the maker of the CVT tranny.

When it comes to the CVT there is a TCU and the process to even replace them with the same part is complicated. reprograming. no idea how that would work.

anyone know more about this?

Seeing how there are different ones for manual and cvt and different ones for different production dates and california spec i would guess they are not the same. although it may work partially

I was wondering because I will send the ecu to be reflashed by WOrks but I needed to know if I can purchase the one from the non CVT (oh and BTW I am talking about the ENGINE ECU not the Transmission computer) and send it there.

I can verify that the main maps for fuel / ignition are identical between the two, but the ecu's do have different parameters for the drive by wire as well as torque control etc. So in a nutshell, they are different computers. We have seen this from the reflashing we are doing on the ecu's

of course they're different, one controls a CVT and one does not!

its is really different, because the ecu is really different, the ecu for the cvt is made especially for triptonic shifting cars, if its a non-cvt car (manual) then you will have to buy a ecu that is made for that model

The Engine Ecu does not control the trans. The TECU does... The EECU does however have different programming for a cvt transmission, so it can send/recieve messages over the datalink. No response from EECU to TECU = no drive and possibly no start... Also going from a stock lancer to a ralli-art is another issue, you have boost sensors and a whole different programming package...

So no it won't work.

Even if you did have an ecu out of another ralli-art it may not work as most ECU's are coded with the vin, and if you TECU "talks" to the EECU and the vin's don't match up, you could have a problem.
