reflashing 05 M/T ECU to evo rom
Ok tantrum over. Sort of.
EcuFlash says it can only read raw rom images. It's not picking up that it's connected to my car I guess.
The .xml files I have are definitions, as I understand it. And EcuFlash can't use them without a rom.
So if I can't read my rom.... What? Buy a different $160 cable?

I wish there was someone within 50 miles of me that could help me figure this out.
Evoscan is doing something.
I "read from ecu" with "ecu type: 01-05 evo7/8/lancer/etc"
Romid

Now why can't EcuFlash do anything?
I'm trying to put definition files in every folder I can find, in the hopes that it will find one and oh I don't know USE IT... But when I click "read from ecu" I only have the options 1996-2001 2nd gen/evo5/6
2001-2005 3rd gen Evo 7/8
Evo 9 eclipse at

Sorry for blowing up your forums.
I suppose I'll go type "EcuFlash doesn't work" in the search engine.
UTFSE, right?
Not tonight, though. Got about 6 hours before work.
I'm guessing the problem is one of two things (in all likelyhood both,): wrong version of EcuFlash, wrong definition files.
I downloaded roadspike's compilation of definitions as well as several i thought might be applicable from evoscan.com.
I figured either the 04MT or the 06MT would work, but so far I haven't even really figured out how to use them.
Anyways, I'm operating on the assumption that what I managed to pull from my ecu on evoscan is my romid. It's in one of my rants above. Tomorrow I'll do a search on that
In the meantime, if anyone has any insights or feels like helping, PLEASE DO! As much as I try to UTFSE and watch videos and read Merlin's guide and all the other various Evo crap out there, it still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Besides working 70 hours a week I'm doing the best I can to try to learn this stuff as quickly as possible without being too much of a pain in the **** to the people on these forums. I'm probably failing at that too. But for what it's worth I truly appreciate all the help you folks offer.

When all the ones Ive seen in say, senate's definition files master list thread something like 8---------- or 9---------?????

Soooo am I in the doghouse?
Edit: if this thread is going to negatively affect my ability to talk to other members and glean information from these forums, delete it. Please.
I'm royally screwed without this place, as it sort of has a monopoly on all the relevant information for what I'm trying to do. Not to mention all the people and trade resources.
I'm saying this because I don't seem to be able to send a particular pm at the moment.
Sorry for whatever I did. :-/

Ok, ive had some limited success.
I had to completely uninstall EcuFlash, wipe everything out, and reinstall using version 1.29a (thanks to Green_Bandit for the idea.)
And I managed to read my rom. Only problem now is that I used a 2005 Evo viii definition file so everything is really screwy. I haven't tried to reflash my ecu or anything crazy like that yet. I did do a test write, and that worked.
So the next task is to find a closer, naturally-aspirated definition file and figure out how to reload my rom with that file. I kept trying to re-read the ecu and choose a different definition but it never gave me the option after that initial read.
Or, fix everything on the Evo map.
Pictures to come as soon as photobucket decides to let me upload.
Btw it showed my romid as 96630013
Interestingly, the flash method shows as "mitsukernal" and not "mitsukernalocp," which is what I thought it had to be for my car. *shrug*
