I am brand new to this car scene, and I would like to see if anyone here can give me a few pointers on how I can improve my cars performance.

try google for one, but just to give you something to work with:

basic stuff to get some more pep would be some sort of intake be it a "cold air intake" or "short ram intake", exhaust header, cat-back exhaust, and a tune. The tune is probably the most important thing that most people neglect to get. If you don't tune the motor for it's new parts you're pretty much not getting the most out of the modifications and could actually lead to performance losses rather than gains.

Know that with a NA (naturally aspirated) base lancer you're not going to see or feel giant leaps in performance. so you need to see if you're cool with spending upwards of $1500 for a 15whp gain in a worse case scenario.
