how many miles is "a pretty large amount"? I've had my car for 13 months and have almost 43K on it, nothing has failed yet, just get the stuff checked out like it says in the manual

maybe radiator hoses if they are feeling mushy at all, tranny fluid/oil, plugs, check your manual, it's got a good list in it

You can do timing belt with minimal tools, but it is not fun. I hope you've had your transmission fluid changed in that amount of time too, because you should have. The basic service plan is in the car's manual.
