How Tough Are the Factory Internals?

How big of a shot of nitrous and how much boost can the factory internals handle before I need to go forged? I was wanting to shoot a small like 30 shot or something, just for the fun of it, but I'm all factory inside, what mods would you guys suggest for a small (no more than 75, yes I know 45hp shot is a big difference) shot of nitrous? I'm eventually going boost too, and I've decided I have to have forged rods.. Is this right?

I heard that if you do any shot of nos on our car, its best to upgrade the internals. Its only a matter of time before something gets f'd up.

Besides your going boost later right? why not just play it safe and go ahead and upgrade so you wont have to worry about the nos

They're not. Avoid nitrous. Run a search.

Talk to BoeTurboLancer... Boe blew 2 engines shooting juice before he learned it's not meant for our car... PERIOD.

Edit: He blew his engine 3 times, 2 on nitrous and 1 overboosting with a turbokit.

the 4G94 is a bored out 1.8L. Your cylinder walls are already on the thin side and the pistons and rods are only so-so strength wise. With forged internals you can probably take a small shot, but stock your asking for engine death.

ahh. thats not good news.. No i'm not a nitrous junkie. I was just hoping to be able to spray the last few seconds of the 1/4 for a little better time. guess that won't happen. So not even with forged internals could I shoot a 35 shot??

I always hear people rationalize. "But if I only squeeze at the drag strip with 100 octane..." and then the following week "well, a Mustang Cobra pulled up next to me and I just had to turn on the NOS..."

No such thing as 200 hp under $1000, you either have to pay for the turbo up front, or the new engine after NOS. Either way, you're talking a few thousands. But only one way lets you keep the engine and the 200 hp.

They'd be lucky to be so-so.

Yeah, even so-so pistons & rods can handle nitrous or 15 psi, come to think of it. We didn't exactly get the cream of the crop in the internals department...

As Rob (from RRM) has stated several times before the ring lands on the pistons are extremely narrow. They're quite brittle. The connecting rods are about as thick as my index finger, give or take a small fraction of an inch. Replacing the pistons and rods is probably the best thing I've ever done for my car, even though it wasn't by choice for me.

Ok, so I just bought the new pistons that rrm came out with. The 10.5:1 pistons. Not saying that I'm gonna run nitrous but if I did would they be able to handle it? I'm talking about a 35 or 50 shot? Also would it make it any safer if it was a wet kit?

new pistons are a start .. but you wanna get forged rods as well .. even with that, your running a BIG risk even with a 35 shot of NOS. i personally just dont think its worth it.

really, what is the goal of NOS? a 3 second burst of HP? is 3 seconds here and there really worth the $ you will send on the NOS kit ? is that 3 seconds really worth trashing your engine? my opinion is to buy supporting engine mods or save up for a SDS or turbo .. or start to piece one together.
