What do you guys think about the 2.4 L out of the new Outlander (The Outlander is based on the lancer chassis) here is a pic of the outlander engine bay. ilooks like it is basicly a lancer engine with a slightly larger bore/stroke. I think ther is a good possiblity that the engine may bolt up to stock mounts and brackets.Link to specs
Also it has 20 hp & 20 ft/lb more torque plus a slightly more turbo freindly compresion ratio of 9.0 to 1 instead of 9.5 to 1

ok i just checked the mitsu website and saw there is an awd version of the outlander, and someone said it's chassis was based one th lancer chassis, so maybee, and this might be far fetched but you could put the whole driveline in a lancer with some mods
I think someone had mentioned that the outlander uses the 2.4l from the Eclipse RS/GS. Methinks that we shall have to do more digging around and find out whatever information we can.

too bad the outlander isn't dohc, do you think there would be any way to put dohc heads on a lancer, i think that would make a big diffrence, maybee modify 4g63 heads or modify the 4g94 block to accept diffrent heads, i know people do stuff like this with hondas, but they are useually more universal
I figured I would plant the seed about the engine swap just because of reading the chassis is based on the us lancer and seeing the picture of the engine and reading the specs. Makes me think hmmmm. I dont forsee my self attempting this til its paid off and out of warrenty but if there a some braver souls than I, it might pay off. by then there should be some in the bone yards and we may have figured out some possible head swaps. however I dont think the awd theory will pan out though. too much money to even attempt it and even if someone figures out how to do it.. can an econo sport ut drivetrain take any signifigant power
well if i was sure the swap would work i might do it, but it might not be worth it because
1. price of the engine and all the work of doing the swap isn't worth the 20hp increase
2. there aren't many aftermarket parts for the outlander engine, who is gonna hop up a 4cyl suv? but maybee if the engine is similar enough some of the 4g94 parts might fit.

I beleive that many engine parts may swap between that engine and the 4g94 and eclipse engine. just need a junkyard donor and some time. some one with a connection or two at a bone yard is bound to at look in to it. or even better a Mitsu tech may get a chance to compare the two engines in the crate
also it may make a better starting point for heavy mods. if you are going for pistons shotpeen rods or boreing out the cylinders why not start with an engine that makes more power with less compression and a larger oem bore( giveing more room for more cc's). and the possibility of dohc head swap would make it that much more worth while
