Intake Manifold

would it be any good to even get a sheet metal intake manifold or how about a bigger/better one, or on our lancer is that pretty much just the tb? i have heard of some of my dsm friends sayin they got pretty good gains from it wondering if it would benifit us that much

sheet metal intake manifold? sheet metal tb? never heard of that. but there is a sheet metal heat shield for a cone filter. friend has it on a gsx. also seen the ones on vfaq.com. seem like they work well with turbos.

Making a bigger TB and manifold will help yes, only if you're cramming in a significant amount of air i.e. forced induction. Parts like that aren't the cheapest to get fabricated so make sure you know what you're doing. It may help the DSM's but parts like that are even only for the big boosters of that group.

That, and the real point of intake restriction on the Lancer isn't the TB, but the MAS. That'd be something I'd try and "solve," before the TB.

freeing up the MAS doesn't "feel" like it helps any. i could be wrong but i won't know til i get the thing dyno'd. that's pretty much my project for now.

oh yeah, i think dude in a mirage explained why the restrictor is a certain size at different amounts of hp. moving up to a 3rd gen eclipse RS MAS isn't helpful until you're pushing 140hp so using the stock lancer MAS won't need to be changed until then.

Be that as it may, I believe that's the main source of restriction. Whether you "feel" it or not is a different matter. I mean, thing is, you kinda gotta look at from this angle. You work your way in.

Wouldn't help that much because the intake ports of the head would still be same size.... much better to port and polish the head first.

so you put a third gen eclipse mas in your lancer? did it attach right to the ecu and does the ecu know how to use it? also you said the it would be better after 140 hp, but when would it become too restrictive? i mean when would you need an even bigger mas? if anybody knows the answers to these questions thanks

I wouldn't think port/polish would be that effective until your running a little higher hp. I don't know if anyone has gained anything on us-lancers from p/p.
