Question 5" intake and heat shield

i own a 2002 black lancer ls, and i recently bought a 5" intake adapter and filter. it bolts on where the old stock air box is. and it has a 5" tapered filter. and i bought a 4-5" Simota stainless heat shield, which is going to be sprayed with black engine enamel for further protection. well, i had a couple questions, and no i dont have all the parts yet, getting the filter tomorrow or friday, but, this filter is 6.5" long, am i going to have to move the batterey to the trunk in order to fit this in their, and will i need to make a support bracket for support? oh, and im leaving the under grille scoop so it can blow air to the filter, like the injen heat shield tutorial. but my heat shield isnt a wall, its a semicircular, connected where the filter connects to the adapter. has anyone else done this or attempted this? any help would be awesome, please

pix would help.. I made the heat shield tutorial. Basically all you need to do is put the heat shield on the car and hold the air scoop up to where it meets the shield. Then trace around it while you have it in a accurate position held up to it. Take out the heat shield and cut it using a dremel.. then paint or whatever. As for the battery relocation, there are kits you can buy and there are also plenty of topics on how to do it and plenty of pix. I recommend using the search feature for that before you get reemed out.. lol.

I agree with wiretap. Without seeing all of this, it's impossible to guess. And I'm not going to run to the car with a ruler and see if a 6.5" filter will fit...

I would suggest not painting it black. Paint it White. Black absorbs heat like a ****.

A lot of engine enamels and radiator or coolant piping coatings are black. The color's far less of an issue than the materials. Since he's using engine enamel I doubt it'll be a problem at all.

i highly doubt your going to haveto relocate your battery. 6.5" should just about clear.

i need to get my camera working again, its pos. but the heat shield is not the same kind wiretap used, it fits on the circular fitting. the adapter is square to fit the OEM square side. i didnt want to cut the square to circular, in case their was some issues at dealer when i go for main, until that runs out. but yeah, i think it should fit. dont have any money right now for any more detailing, and i still dont have my filter and adapter yet, ebay bums havnt deleivered yet. since i cant get pics yet, is their anymore questions about my setup, and does anyone think a 5" is too much.

got it put in, and i need to make a braket for it. i will try to throw some pics on here for you. but it sounds very throaty and when hitting top speeds, it sounds amazing! i have the bottom supported by a tennis ball, i cut it and put it in the hole under the area the stock box bolted to. its kinda ghetto, but idk right now. will this void my warranty if they see this when i take it in for oil change? havnt searched, but im lazy

this is a pic of the original setup, notice the tennis ball to protect it from hitting the stock airbox mount. this is pic of the bracket we made, with two mounting holes, well actualy one was for the lower mount near the battery, and the other was for the plug thing from the stock box to plug to, and the middle hole is for the heat shield mount, it is threaded 10/23. as compared to the ghetto ball mount, hahah. this is how the bar mounts, i used a zip tie because i didnt have the bolts from stock box, had to drive this home to get that bolt, but the other end is the plug thing end i previously talked about. here is a pic taken before i drove home, see the hole i cut for the stock air scoop, this is later going to be covered with hosing to protect from heat and further direct air. here is the final pic, well kinda, but i used the old bolt to bolt it down, the other end was higher up due to the way we drilled it, so it would rest and help support the bracet, so i used a large washer under the bolted end to lift it to height. so this is all done now. next i am going to paint it all, clean it up some, and make directed hosing for the stock scoop to throw more air on it all. and yes, this cost a **** load less than a short ram, all this and some handy work= less than 60 bucks, thats good to me, seeing as how it is a 5' air inlet, and yes, i am replacing the old stock bend tube to the throttle body, going to use some silicon, more support and better air flow. gonna go look at a tornado for extra kicks too, dont know if that will work though? post if any questions.
