Engine rebuild
Engine rebuild
I live in Southern California and I will be rebuilding my motor after the first of the year. At that time I want to install better pistons and rods. Can anyone suggest a shop that can do the performance rebuild.
They don't but very few people have done complete engine rebuilds... so you'd be one of the first. THere's a couple people who have done a couple things... but no one has done it all... blueprint teh block, rods, pistons, cams, maybe EMS..... u'd have good luck calling up RPW... err emailing them. In Australia they have done this stuff

Well right now my car has 154,000 miles on it. By February I will have 175,000 at least. Thats why I'm looking to do a rebuild then. It's also using a little to much oil for my liking. Rob at RRM said I might be losing it through my vavle train. If I'm giong to do any major work I'm just going to go all the way. When it comes to doing my own stuff I have a book to go by. I think the only book out there for this car is the dealers shop manual and there not cheap. I need torque specs and such. I have a friend that can gap the rings. Thanks for your suggestions.
Its not that difficult get a cd manual, the hardest thing is being nervous and scaring yourself, once you tear into it , you learn alot and then you can fix anything on it. I rebuilt mine twice once from nitrous then once from 12 psi on stock internals. Now i bought a 2003 motor from an auto with 16,000 miles from a wrecked rental lancer and rebuilt it with my internals and all my goodies it was cheap that way. Nothing like being able to say you did everything. Good luck man!

I may be able to help you with some torque specs. The service manuals have them. I don't really want to promote piracy, but you can get a copy on CD in PDF off Ebay or get one from the dealership for a small fortune (the legal way). It obviously depends upon whether or not you have the time to invest into the rebuild, plus the freedom of being able to have some downtime. If you decide to do it yourself a few of us can help you without a doubt.
Thank you I will keep that in mind HobieKopek. Ryan, do you have an auto or manual? Id there a difference in the engines? I've seen them for sale but I didn't think I could just bolt it up. I have a manual.
