lifters

Does anyone know if we can swap the solid lifters from the mirage into a hydralic head like ours? If we cant, why not?

Why would you want to? The hydraulic lift adjusters are nice- they self adjust.

Or so they want you to believe....

In all honesty, I had a 97 Mirage head with the solid lifters in them and never had any ticking or valve lash or nothing with that head up to about 100,000 K ... switched to a 99 head with about 18K miles on it, RPW P&Ped blah blah blah and when the car is cold, it sounds like a time bomb.

Hydraulic lifters technically are supposed to maintain zero lash in the valve train, by auto adjusting the clearance to zero. Supposedly, the benefits are quieter engine operation, and no periodic adjustment to maintain priper lash. How ironic, that my solid lifter head never had any valve noise and never required adjustment, and my hydraulic head is the noisy one, in need of adjustment.

Go figure with Mitsu.

DJ- he says he want to take the solid lifters from the Mirage and put them into our hydraulic-adjust rockers.

But whatever floats his boat, you know. I can't see what the harm would be, but I'd PM Mitsiman and see if he can think of any issues

Well, I could be wrong. I'm guessing he'd actually want to swap his lifters into the Mirage head I'm selling him.

No, I want to keep the solid lifters(if inacase they are solid) in the head that blacksheep is selling me. Solid lifters from what I hear can take bigger punishing cams better than the hydraulic lifters can. Hydraulic lifter cams have to be made with a smaller duration. On RPW's cams with the mirage you need to specify hydraulic or solid lifters for cams. It wouldnt surprise me that the stage 1 solid lifter cam has a bigger duration than the stage 1 hydraulic lifter cam. I'll PM mitsiman about it.
