Possible valve problem??

A good friend of mine wanted to take my car for a spin, so I let him go for it. Heres where it gets interesting, he floored the car a few times and I heard a noise. The noise was like a rattling or tapping sort of thing. At first I thought it might be my grill loose or something, but that wasnt the problem. I called another friend, who knows his stuff, and explained what the noise was and what was going on. He came to the conclusion it might possibly be my valve being off. I was wondering if any one has ever had this problem or someone knows what the problem might be and how to fix it.

go buy a compression tester and follw the instructions (it won't tell you to remove the sensor from the drivers end of the camshaft- but you need to to keep from jetting fuel in the cylinders when you turn the engine over). If your compressions are at least 160 then it's not your valves. Actually, if you have valve problems, chances are good you'll get really close to zero compression.

And what have you done to your engine? If it's nothing involving the cam gear, cam or head it's probably not the valves.

wait- at full throttle you heard the rattle or after your drive? Because if the rattle sound is at idle, it's just your lifters and there's nothing you can do about it, so don't worry.

well if you haven't done anything to the car, take it to the dealer and explain the situation to them fully and have them ride along with you while you replicate the noise. But for an unmodified car I'd say you have very little to worry about.

i agree with previous posts, if it's stock and you've maintained it changed the oil etc you should be fine... unless you're running out of oil in which case you will hear it at idle and all rpms, but louder at higher rpms. it's not a sound you want to hear!

definitely get it checked at the dealer asap
