cam in an 05 OZ?

alright, i know that my name says SOcalES but i ended up buying an OZ instead. anyways...

i got my car about 2 weeks ago and so far it has full 2.5" catback with a titanium muffler and a cold air intake. i want to do a little more engine work but i dont want a turbo because of the extensive work to install it and the price.. i wont have 4k any time soon to get a turbo on it. the car has 1500 miles on it and its fun to drive just the way it is. i read a thread about putting a can but it was kinda hard to follow. so yes i did search. i just wanted to know

will the car still run good with just putting a cam in it?

does anyone really make a cam for it?

where can i buy one from?

Eh...with the mods you have, a cam wouldn't be much use. Get on RoadRaceMotorSports.com and check out what they have. I know they have a sweet ECU upgrade which is the best mod you can do for ANY car...and they're gonna be plug and play soon.

when i first got my Oz, i dumped a whole lot ot money into everything else, in the end, after i spent all kinds of stupid money everywhere, i could have bought a turbo, and have been satisfied...

my point, save for the turbo, may take you a year or a few months, but it will be better than any of your other mods that you put, or all the mods the you put in combined,

plus there are a lot of people in socal that would be willing to help you install the thing for some soda...

check out SCLC.net

If you really want a cam then you will have to buy from RPW, as they are the only ones I can think of that make one.

FYI, your engine is the same as the 01+ Lancers (non Evo, non ralliart) (02+ in North America)

the Engine code is 4G94.

You'll probably end up spending a grand on the cam and install (maybe more). Just get yourself some headers to complete the "suck & blow". Then get v.2 piggyback from RRM; you'll receive gain relatively close to that of the cam with less hassle.

I say, like most people, money is a big factor. Since your car is fairly new and haven't bought anything really expensive and only begun modding...you should choose a route. Will you go show or go? I say this because I went go first. After everything was said and done, I could have bought a new or used turbo kit by now...or if I were slacking just needed a few more hundred dollars till I got the RRM turbo kit.

IMHO, you got the OZ...good in looks already with factory lip kit compared to my ES where a bodykit was needed. I say, save for the turbo! It's the beginning of the year, don't let the tuner bug get to you...just save save save. At most a year from now, you should be spoolin!

First:
Intake, header.
Then:
Throttle body, intake manifold.
Then you should:
Fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail.
Then:
Greddy Emanage + wideband
Then:
Camshaft.

Defenetly look at RPW for mods and cam. RoadRace has great stuff, but so does RPW. Rpw is not talked about very much because of their crappy marketing strategy, but their stuff is just as good and maybe even better than somebody else's.

well thanks everyone for the input. the problem with the OZ that i have is that it is an 05 so it only has sideskirts. looks wierd in my opinion. body kit will be necessary. i am buying 18's with new BFG tires on them from a good friend for 400$ tommorow. after that i think im gonna try to get a raise at work and save for that turbo. i wonder what the dealer is going to say once the car has like 10k miles on it and already has turbo.... they are shocked now that it has 1200 miles on it and intake and exhaust already.

anyways, i appreciate the help. i had an 02 lancer OZ in white automatic about a year ago but it was auto....BOO so i got a truck and that got bad gas milege, so now i have this. so ive looked at roadrace a lot before and i saw RPW last night.
im not sure what route i wanna go first, show or go. in the end it will have both.

What marketing strategy?

Dave won't get a vendor account and just posts up new parts. Then I delete the posts because he's breaking the rules.

They're going strictly by Word-Of-Mouth, sadly...

yes camshaft should be nearly the last thing you do, just before the adjustable cam gear (which should be last). Greg's list is good. I disagree about the FPR being necessary, but hey, that's a relatively small item. I would move the eManage and WBO2 up the list just because I think the longer you have it the more you'll get used to tuning it and the better off you'll be when you start doing serious work. Problem is it not very useful until you start doing fairly major work... so flip a coin If you get an overlarge cam you fuxor yourself and get no power anywhere. Some folks say the stage 2 had no power under 3K RPM but I disagree, I just don't think they threw enough tinkering/guesswork (knowhow?) at it.
