Hey all,
i just just just JUST installed my SRI. the thing is, i know i installed it properly. but my generic i(Bomz)ntake didn't come with any instructions so i sorta followed the instructions of the K&N one just in case and it seems to fit all good. i wanted to keep my stock scoop but it was connected with the big black Stock filter box, and plus even if i had just the scoop it wouldn't fit.
my first impressions are, the sound is better....but powerwise...i dont think i've gained...in fact, i think i lost some power...could it be cuz i also have to get an exhaust system to get the full effect? i heard that i lose power when i just put the intake without the exhaust, is this true?
now i dunno if its because i was still breaking my car in and driving nice and slow and never did infact speed and accelerate on stock, but when i just installed it i accelerated and experienced the speed, but i had nothin to compare to, to the stock, so it could be the reason why. if this happens to be the reason, man...the car is not as strong as i thought in the acceleration. i coulda sworn i was going faster acceleration on stock, i'm like pushing my pedal in all the way and the car just doesn't seem to move. is this how it is on stock? maybe i shoulda tested the whole car out on stock and THEN install the intake. now i have no stock data "feeling" to compare it to.
also, on my generic intake (which is temporary), u know on the stock there is a thin hose from the crank case that connects directly on the side of the intake pipe, it didn't come with, i tried to stick the stock hose on but wouldn't fit, is this mandatory? or can i just leave the hole there?
my beef is that the damn bracket wouldn't fit, either that or i dunno how or where to fit it. might have to make a homemade one.
speaking of power again, am i supposed to lose power if i have just the intake without the exhaust? it feels like i lost some accelerating power....odd, maybe its just me...i hope i didn't.

You don't lose power by having just an intake and not an exhaust. It's actually the othe way around. Putting on an exhaust before anything else kills your backpressure, resulting in a loss of hp.
Did you disconnect your battery and let the ECU reset? That might be a cause of the sluggishness of the car.
As for comparisons to stock, like you felt, there is a definite increase in acceleration and sound. Now as far as actual hp gains, it's tough to really tell and nobody's bothered forking up the cash to dyno just an intake.

No, you shouldn't lose power at all. Try resetting your ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 15-20 minutes if you haven't already. Then idle it for about 15 minutes. The car may be running rich in the learning process while adjusting to the breathing mod. That vaccuum line either needs to be replaced or you need a breather filter on your valve cover. I'm assuming you're talking about the hose pointed out below?

no no no, the sensor is plugged back on, and i made sure i resetted the ECU by unplugging the neg terminal of battery. I also let my engine idle run for 20 min. --> does this mean like turning on ignition and leaving on neutral for like 15ish minutes to let it adjust? when i put the engine on, the first thing i noticed was my motor automatically reved up and lowered down, and then fluctuated.
i really think its the hose thing from the crank case/ side of valve cover area to the actual intake pipe, what hobie just called the "vacuum line", cuz i thnk i'm losing pressure from there. i actually just removed the whole thing....what is a breather filter?

the hose thing, luckily i had a about 10 cm's worth of silicone hose i connected it to my stock hose as an adaptor and fitted the thing to my intake and crank case.
this will have to do for now....
i just can't see where this bracket goes....damn, its annoying to see my intake dangling...dont want it fall off...heheheh

all that hose does is allow the air in your valve cover to breathe. having the hose connected allows filtered air to enter it. not having the hose simply allows unfiltered air in. Unless of course you add the breather filter like hobie said, in which case the valve cover has its own tiny filter on it. So I don't think you would lose any power from having it off

nevermind, i used the stock hose and it fits fine, had to stretch it abit all the way in the back but its all good.
i think i can see the increase in power, i guess it was the loss in pressure i was feeling before.

hobie, i noticed in the pic that it looks like you have the heat shield that came with the SRI kit against the battery....is it just leaning on it for the time being or is it supposed to be attached there? thought it was to be attacked like right behind the filter?
j/c cause i'm prob gettin one soon and am gonna try to install it myslef

I had simular problems when I put mine on. THe hose coming from the valve cover will fit, you just have to roll the nipple over so you don't strech the hose, should be able to slip it right on there. Just leave the 90 degree fitting in the old rubber peice. And make sure you get all of the packing peanuts out of the filter. I thought I did, and missed one, and scared myself half to death when the car started cutting off because the MAS was blocked.
i just installed my sri, and here's what i noticed:
there is a definite loss in low end "oomph", and that's most likely because you are sucking in warmer air. however, one i shift into third, there is a much more noticeable jump in power, and it really throws you back in your seat. i think what you are experiencing is just the downside of the sri my friend. i'm getting the aem cai soon, i'll let you know if i can tell a difference.
