Front Mount "Cold Air" Intake

Is there anyone who has seen or even heard about a Front Mount Intake like the one here http://www.ppsonline.net/underhoodFrontMount.htm for the Lancers.

that would deffinitely bring in more cold air for sure. would have to really worry about rain getting sucked up in.. it is cool lookin.

It's a useless and terrible design. Flat panel intakes are less efficient, and all this would do in a best case scenario is make someone think your car is faster than it really is.

Adding a real intercooler to a non-FI car is another tremendous waste of time and money. There is no real heat because there is no pressure, therefore making intercooling virtually worthless, but far more expensive. It also adds unecessary weight if you're at all concerned about that.

If you want an intercooler on your car, for Pete's sake, just save up for a turbo.

yeah it would be so much more efficient than any Cold Air Intake just because one this front mount would have no air restrictions and plus it has more surface area

See above. If you want a good intake, get a CAI short ram with a large filter.

If you want to look like a jackass, see if they have an application of this pile to fit the Lancer.

It's been around for a few years at least, but the metal mesh filter is new as far as I know. The original had a cotton panel filter similar to the stuff they use to make K&N's (though I'm sure a far cry from it).

I just remember it being called the "interfooler".

i just wanted to get some ideas for this application. I already have a SRI and i was just thinking if i went to a custom intake it would be interesting to see what i could design. Another question is what piping would work the best that i would bend.
