Those big catbacks are for the evo, they need that big of a diameter size, the lancer only needs 2.25''.

And that summit racing link, that looks like a resonator, but I guess it says muffler.. anyhow, it would probably not fit on the lancer because of the way the exhaust goes around the axle.

ok, i know the lancer doesnt NEED a bigger muffler. infact lancers dont NEED alot of things eg. body kits, rims (esspecially the OZ) etc. but you put them on cos it looks nice. and i dont see how something that looks good on an evo can't look good on a lancer?

yeh i figured those mufflers wouldnt work. they sound pretty good for the price though, tis a shame

You have to have a good balance of looks and fuction. Sometimes you must sacrifice looks for function, but there is a limit. If you only want looks from this upgrade, spend less money and just get a nice chrome tip. I am not sure what color your car is or what colors you have going on, but maybe even a steel gray color or even black. Some of the best tips I have seen are black and they look so good. Since you cannot afford a cat-back right now, as I cannot, my theory is do nothing until you can get one, or put a tip on there and be okay with that for now.

I am searching around for something that does not sound like rice, because I will not put that on my car, my best result so far is the Buschur Racing Bullet muffler they have for $450 (catback) since I do not have the money to spend on that now, I am going to wait until I do and until I can do it right. I have always followed the thought of if you are going to put money and time into it, make sure it's what you want and not what others want. Not to impress others with it, but to make it something you are proud of owning and something that you enjoy. In the meantime, a catback would improve performance some, and it would increase visual aspects on the car was well as the desired sound you want. So in my opinion, you will be much happier waiting and getting a catback, than just, what seems to be, settling for just a muffler.

With all that said, it is still your car, you don't have to mod it for anyone but yourself. If you want to do it, do it. If you like it, do it. Your car is yours, make it yours and not someone elses.

Hope that helped.

^^^^i like it, 10/10 for originality. lol

and lancerjunky,
thanks, i would save up for a cat back, but im looking to increase acceleration on my car, so a cat back would actually take away some torque, which is why im not getting one. I have a chrome tip on my car, its just a walmart one. It looks ok i guess, but i would like to have something that looked a bit more grrrrr. lol. if you know what i mean. hence the $50 ebay muffler, no performance, but looks more grrrr.

Lose? If you got the right size piping you would GAIN low end torque

You have to take into account the sound of the muffler as well. Unless you plan on towing your car everywhere people are going to hear it coming and going and with a crappy muffler you get crappy, high pitched sound. An evo needs big pipes and it is also a larger car, thus a large muffler doesn't look that bad. A lancer on the otherhand looks horrible with a huge muffler. Hell I sometimes think my greddy exhaust is too big, but it sounds nice and I'm pleased with the performance. An exhaust system only takes away power if you put it on too soon, I had all the intake mods, high compression pistons and headers when I got my exhaust and I only felt gains. If you want that tuner style look, your best bets are the greddy or the JIC system. I would recommend the greddy since its substantially cheaper than the JIC, I believe the JIC is close to 1000$.
Lancerjunky, I don't think Buschur makes any lancer parts anymore, they had a huge blowout sale a few months ago because they simply weren't selling enough intakes, exhausts, and pistons to warrant keeping them around any longer.

Wouldn't and Evo catback work on the Lancer?

Nope, different engine and different piping.

but since it was catback, what would the engine matter? Also couldn't you fabricate the pipe to fit?

Simply put, it won't fit, there is a reason why it doesn't say lancer under applications. I don't see the point in buying an exhaust only to modify it heavily to fit a car, it'd be cheaper to just have one made at an exhaust shop. If you want an exhaust, you basically have four choices, greddy, magnaflow, JIC and custom.

Sure, you can be difficult and spend the extra money to get an unnecessary diameter evo catback for you lancer, then get it fabricated and hack it up to pieces in order to fit . Or, you can go the simple route and buy one pre-made for the lancer usually at a cheaper price too.

The differences between the evo catbacks and the lancer catbacks are the evo ones are made to fit around THEIR suspension/transmission components, which the lancer does not share. But go ahead and order an evo system and tell us how it goes. Put it in the how to section.

just stop. i could get an exhuast for a dammed wrx and make it fit. TOO MUCH MONEY TO MODIFY AND FOR WHAT?

a- u dont have an evo
b- buying the evo exhuast is not goign to get u closer.
c- if u do buy one ill call u a tool and laugh with this face
d- for good sound on an sohc garbage 4g94 get a magnaflow or greddy exhaust/ muffler.
d2- maximum pipe size is 2.25- 2.5 inevitably u will get about 2.75-3inch. because u like farting and losing power.

e- have a good day and try not to make lancer owners look like idiots
