I am probably going to get 100 different answers on this one, but im going to ask it anyway. I've searched the site already and found nothing conclusive.
If i take the front of my air intake box off, and somehow keep the filter in place against the back half of the box
but also leave the air funnel thing in the front, to bring in cold air still.
will this slow my car down at all? improve it?
im only doing this cos i know it will sound cool, also until i get some money to get a whole new intake kit.
What do you guys think?
Im planning on doing this in a few hours when i get done at work, so some quick answers would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks

there's not much power there at all. As for upgrading to a new intake, it's a good way to go, but it'll only make you sound tough!..lol. OH, and as soon as you go turbo, you'll just have to remove it cause there's not more need for it.
Intakes a relatively cheap nowadays. Last i saw on ebay you could get a Short Ram for like 30 bucks. All you really need is a pipe, a Plastic Mas adapter, and an airfilter. Thats all that an intake consists of. But like everyone says, unless you wanna go turbo, the butt dyno will never be impressed in a lancer

ok girls and boys. i did it, and i have to say.....im happy!
lol
SOUNDS SWEET!!!!!!!
i used twisty ties to secure the filter in place, and also secure the back half of the box to the mounting bracket thingy. It hasnt budged, after a very testing drive. lol
Seems to have gave me a little more umph of the line, or that could be the fact i reset my ECU i dunno. lol.
but my little "mod" has worked well. It will hold me over till i can afford a full intake.

It does remove a bit of restriction that the plastic box makes. And you can't beat the price.
I've thought about doing the same to my Subaru, but the way the hood scoop is, it wouldn't really work.

that sux.
it has worked pretty well. when i upload pics i will leave it to you guys to think of a better way to secure the filter and existing half box in place. other than using zip ties. lol
make it slightly less ghetto.
I am officially naming this mod..........SRI..............Short Rice Intake
