Performance mods for better MPG?

Just bought a 2006 Lancer ES a couple weeks ago. Broke it in and drove from Chicago to Texas, then to Minnesota and home! Over 4k miles in a week. But here’s my question, On my trip I saw anywhere from 24, to 30 mpg all highway. Although I was hopping for better I know its not terrible. Was only getting 18 to 25 in my 98 Camaro SS that I had to sell to buy a “family” car. Car is an auto but does anyone know of any good, cheap brands of exhausts or intakes that would help with my quest? Not really looking for a fast car (have a built 94 Talon AWD for that) but I’m not very familiar with the 4G94 so I thought I would seek the help of an experienced community. TIA

Good spark plugs , good air filter, good exhaust. The botton line is to get the engine to work less producing more power with less effort.

go to autozone, get a MAF adapter $14, a Steel Mesh Filter $48 and a zip tie.

Thanks, is the Magnaflow exhaust a lot louder than stock? Looking for something stock looking and sounding. I can weld on a smaller single or dual tip muffler if i need though. Also are the OEM plugs pretty good or is there a better upgrade for a stock Lancer? Most short ram and CIA's about the same for these cars? I might weld together a CIA and stick a K&N on there.

Anything that improves the efficiency of the engine will increase your MPG. Now you need to decide what's important to you: just sound or looks? What about low end and high end power? There's a ridiculous amount of info on this site just waiting to be used. I will caution you against a CAI because you're just asking to suck water and some have reported that the MAS acts "weird" with the longer intake tube (the air is too "straight" or something). I recommend a SRI with a front ram duct.

good luck.
