Shop replaced timing belt, now no power.... help

So I go get my timing belt changed and water pump by a shop. When I go to accelerate, it feels as if the car has the ac on, which it doesnt. It takes a lot of gas to go nowhere, and it sucks up alot of gas in the fuel tank. Could they have done something to the crank pulley? Or could the timing belt be too loose/tight? I ask another member and the said the timing was off? Any Ideas?

I had a similar situation on a Galant. I did the timing belts (4g64 has 2) and the water pump and put it back together started her up idled fine no leaks I called it good.

Went to drive it? Zero power. Almost like the car wasn't down shifting. I looked at it again the next day and lined up the timing marks and I had retarded the time by one tooth.

So thats where I would look. 1 tooth retarded made it feel like no power even though it ran fine.

Saying retard and retarded in the scope of engine timing is totally PC.

The timing is tricky because the freaking dots that Mitsu painted on the head and the cam gear don't always line up like they're supposed to and in order to see it correctly you're really supposed to be at eye level with the bolt that hold the cam gear on.... yeah right I got sick of having to reset the timing by hand by removing the cam gear and then moving the crank, so I got an adjustable cam gear (it doesn't help that I have a stage 2 cam that lines up worse than the stock cam did).

The timing should be set to 8deg BTDC while the tolerance per the service manual is 5deg BTDC +-3 deg. Unfortunately a timing light doesn't really work because the coil pack that they'd have to hook the gun to fires twice as often as the gun needs (once for the #1 cyl then again for #2 instead of like a distributor that sends the current in a circle, once to each wire). It's a lot of guess-n-check. Stay at the shop and drive it before you sign off on the work.

Good luck!

UPDATE:

So I went to the shop today and told them the situation. He told me to pop the hood and then he took out his timing gun. After about 45 secs of checking the belt out, he told me the timing was off, which I obiviously knew. I ask if he could show me how it looked and he did. The timing belt was retarded a tooth, thats why I was feeling the lack of power. He started working on the car right after that and now I have power. Lol. Thanks all for input.

We are not talking about a slight loss here. It will be a total dog.
