i installed my aem cai on saturday, and it seems to be running fine. idles fine, runs smoothly... however, today when i turned my car off, i noticed it makes a funny sound at the very end of the engine shut-down. its really hard to describe, but its almost like a light scratching or hissing or i don't know what.
does anybody else hear this when they turn off their engine with aem cai? maybe mine is just rubbing somewhere as the engine vibrates.
any help would be appreciated.
ok, i'm off to see RELOADED!

it's very normal for the intake to do that, it's just you engine shutting down and going thru the final intake stage, so it's just sucking in a bit of air. It's perfectly normal and you should grow to love the sound.
dude im am having the same problem with my injen. like somekinda grinding noise and its the LAST thing to make a noise.
its bugging the **** outta me! for the love of god someone help.

For the love of god it isnt a problem. I have thr AEM CAI also and it makes that sound. Think of the intake tube as an amplifier like when you were a kid and used to talk through wrapping paper tubes it made you sound loud and funny. You didnt hear it before or didnt notice it cuz there wasnt the tube amplifiying the sound of the air being sucked into the engine through the manifold and valves. BTW Im pretty sure it made that sound before the CAI just didnt notice it. My sis has a totally stock Galant and her factory intake makes the sound too just quieter, you can only hear it if you are out of the car

WHEW! thank you ALL for posting. i just got back from reloaded (freaking awesome movie), and i had my gf turn the engine off. the funny sound comes from the filter and the throttle body, and the only thing i could possibly think it would be (and this might be a stretch) was a styrofoam peanut that clinged inside a pipe when i installed it.
however, since so many seem to have the same problem, i'll be sleeping a much easier tonight.

edit: and for the record, i thought of a better way to describe the sound. think of buzzing plastic film (on i don't know what). that's what it sounds like at the throttle body. and a whistling of sorts from the filter. just wanted to clarify (and double check to see if anyone listened for this at the TB).

you make an excellent logical point about sound amplification. considering the smoother and more dense shape of the intake, it does make a lot of sense that previously smaller sounds would be greatly amplified. i really appreciate the explanation.

OT: hmmmmmm maybe i should bump my system until after it does that.....
sound like a plan Coda?
is there anything we can do about it? I mean besides put the stock air box back on?

Just to add my $0.02, I also have a '92 MR2, and on those the stock intake is like a foot behind the driver's head, and MR2s make the sucking sound audibly from inside the car stock, When You put on a CAI it gets a lot louder, but it is the same sound, and is normal and a perfectly healthy engine sound.
When I had an intake on my 97 Acura CL it made that sound too... because when you shut the engine off you throttlebody shuts all the cutting the airflow which makes a hissing...
Yeah i have Injen CAI and same thing....speaking of wierd noises..for n e one with intake and catback, try this...cruise to 40 mph..put it in 5th gear. let the car slow to 35mph...let out the clutch...mine makes a gergling/light backfireing sound......n e ideas....i have a custom catback from seibring......on the other hand it sound NICE.but i dont know if its a bad thing that i LOVE!lol
dont worry about it its just the wind left in the CAI piping leaveing the engine threw the filter its normal i heard it on my civic when i had that 2 exept i had INJEN cai in both but its normal your cool man.
