Exhaust

this is what i have: RRm testpipe resonator and no muffler.

i get a lot of popping when i nail it and let off.

Question: do i lose horsepower cause of no muffler and no backpressure and if i get a muffler will it quit popping.

i want a magnaflow muffler

Need a muffler. Poping is unburnt fuel igniting. Get the Magnaflow setup we have. See site for details

Free flowing exhausts tend to do that too. Can't say I know why. I'd pop on upshifts initially when I had my Injen CAI and Buschur cat-back setup as well. Oddly enough (before I went boosted) the popping stopped on its own.

Honestly don't know how it is at present though, it may still do it, but I dunno because I'm easy on the throttle due to my boost/EMS problems.

The popping is air being introduced into the exhaust while there is still unburned fuel in the exhaust. It is possible with a true straight exhaust, especially of a large diameter. This will occur at the rear or exit of the exhaust. If you are getting it with a cat and muffler then it means you have a exhaust leak. Hence, it did it and went away because the flange probably finally sealed up.

btw.. If it is bad enough of a leak it can blow seams, etc on mufflers. Just like the violent ignition in a cylinder it expands exponetially.
