Engine light codes HELP!!

Hey guys my engine light came on while driving out of nowhere. Just cruising through town. Nothing as far as I can tell is a miss the car idles fine revs fine no power loss temp is fine not sure what the deal is. I have had vehicles that you can run a jumper wire in the data port and get the engine light to flash the code and you can look it up. Anyone know if you can do this with an 03 Lancer ES thanks.

Try just resetting the ecu... meaning, disconnect the battery for about 5-10 minutes. Reconnect, start'r up, idle for 5-10 minutes, and then go out for a 20-30 minute drive for the ecu to re-learn your driving. Probably just a one time thing, and it happens alot I hear...

Thank you, I know how I can reset it but I just get nervous when that light comes on even though probably 80% of the time I run into a car with that light on it is just due to emisision but thank you anyways!!

That was OBD-1. You have OBD-2. You can take it to the local auto shop and get the code read for free.

Hey guys I ordered a obd II scanner online as I do a lot of mechanic work for people anyways, so I will use that to see what is wrong. Also it is C.A.N. enabled, I have heard scanners with this capabilty can read other systems like SRS and ABS. Does the car have to have this ability too or is it part of all systems?

Hey guys I got my scanner yesterday I checked it and it had freeze frame data which from what I understand happens when an emissions problem occurs and the fault code says catalyst warm up failure bank 1, cant remember the exact code number but can get it if needed, anyone know what this really mean exactly? my engine light did go off on its own the night before I recieved the scanner.

I thought it had something to do with the cat. Is that bad? or maybe just a once in a great while thing? I cleared all the codes to see if it happens again. Thanks!

I had the same problem with my header. No it is not bad, you probally wont pass emisions, that will need to be fixed before you can pass.

A list of modifications would help to determine if it will happen again.

Assuming you have the stock header/exhaust manifold, you can take it to the dealership. There's a factory recall for the warm-up cat.

One nice thing is where I live you dont have to go throught emissions, and as of right now everything performance wise is stock so I might just take it to the dealer

Even if you weren't stock, they HAVE to fix it. This is a factory recall, not a warranty thing. Just take it up there. Get your car up to date, fool!

They should tell you. But it never hurts for you to ask them to check.
