ROAD/RACE- 08 Lancer...Here we Come.
I thought the cvt was much more fun the more buttons the better, kinda like a joystick. I like new more hi-tech stuff i get bored with primative old things like 5 speed manuals. the precision and feel of the cvt was much more fun and in the city where theres a insane amount of traffic it swoops through it like a rollercoaster and with no shift lag it feels like a wind up toy. 500+hp on a cvt would be crazy.
Yeah. I agree to that. The CVT does feel like your playing a game. I like the manual, but as DSRTTGIR said, I, too am into gadgets. I like to get the newest electronics and before, I was looking at the VW GLI DSG just because of the paddle shifters. Just something new. And if it's proven that a CVT can take some power then so be it. But I will wait.
Has anyone heard from Rock on any additional info on the capabilities on the CVT?

Hey, new to this forum,
personally ive only driven automatic before and the difference between my manual 08 GTS and my accord hybrid v6 is night and day.
even if my accord has 100 more hp. its AUTO, and that sucks. Drives are so boring the music entertains me more. Engine revs are meaningless and u dont even need to see the rpm meter. But with the manual you have to hear the engine which is awesome.
If you have a CVT, you may play with it for a while, but since u dont HAVE to , you will probrably end up driving it like a auto anyways.
There are ALOT more things you can do with manual, and alot of expert techniques you can learn, its challenging. haha i accidently grinded my ears today
Unlike the cvt which i test drove where u just hit a knob up and down. plus its alot slower 0-60. manual is 7.7 i remeber i read cvt is around 8-9 seconds? can you guys confirm?

^^ Quoted from Motoweek: "After such strong handling and braking, the 152-horse CVT drive train was bound to pale in comparison. And while it did turn in a respectable 0-to-60 of 7.7 seconds, and a best quarter-mile of 15.9 seconds at 95 miles-per-hour, it doesn't match the chassis' sharp sporting feel."
BOO YAHH !!

Word...
That's what I am talking about!
The 2.0-liter GTS five-speed we tested ran 0-to-60 in 7.7 seconds, more than a match for the last 2.3-liter-equipped Mazda3 we tracked at eight seconds flat.
Motor trend quote.
Interesting, so the CVT and the manual mode post exactly the same results?
given that the manual mode is driven by a professional shifter to get 7.7 seconds CVT can do the same?
i see the post from motor week.
it says also 7.7 seconds.
edmunds has it at 9.1 seconds.

supposedly maybe they drove the CVT before the ECU learned the sporty driving. But still 1.4 seconds is alot!.

Where did you see that they post the same? All I've seen is that the CVT is way slow compared to the manual...
My bad. Missed that when I read it.
Hopefully someone can recreate that in real life. That's much faster than I've heard any of the other CVT tests in the 0-60...

with my basic stop watch my 0-60 time is always between 6.5 and 7.5 seconds, but my wheels are alot lighter than the stock ones.

7 seconds???
are u guys gonna mess up your transmission when you do that?
u do realize a civic SI which is probably lighter and has ~200 hp does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds.
and on top of that adding a simple RRM intake will drop that by another second? to 6 seconds?
with a 152 hp CAI or SRI modded engine? where are we getting these numbers from??
dsrttigr just a question cuz if you can get like 6.5 seconds if you add a rrm intake that claims to drop a second you could be going 0-60 in 5.5 seconds
Im just finding these numbers a little hard to believe thats all. I was actually suprised that the lancer 2008 gts could even outdo the mazda 3 GT by .3 seconds
crazy..
