Talking You want a SRI?

When I installed my K&N I kinda made an adapter for it That thing kept falling

So yesterday I had to go back with the stockbox. While re-installing the box, I remembered what people were doing to improve perfomance on another forum. They just open the box and drove like that.

Well.... It does a fairly good job and it's pretty f***in easy to do...

1. Unsnap the 2 silver things on the top of the box.
2. Push the rear part of the box so you can put the 2 silver thing inside the box.
3. Bring the rear part of the box a little forward, and voila. You now have the same sound of a SRI and you got more torque.

BTW... You do have to keep the panel filter in there (but you already knew that hein!) The silver things will keep it from coming out, so you don't get dirt into your engine.

I had a friend that did that to his Celica. He was convienced that it made his car sound really good. And truth be told it did sound nice. Sadly however, he wasn't in the habit of checking it very often and the filter fell out... it could have been off for weeks... he most certinally injested some crap into his engine and then he started have all sorts of problems with his car...

Word to the wise, don't do it. Keep the thing locked... even with the clamps down I wouldn't risk it.

but i thought with the way our intake was disigned the filter could only go up and with the clamps down that wouldn't be very possible

I don't really see the purpose, other than sounding different. It just seems to me that you are changing the air flow (letting air escape that was being pulled from the front of the engine) in theory. good luck and I am sure you will get better opinions from more knowledgable people.

the only thing your doing by that is getting rid of the sound resonators which does nothing for performance. so even tho you claim you get more whatever..your really not.

Edit (unnesserary words removed)

I know when my car has more power or not. Try it and you'll see.

When the box is closed, the only air coming in is by that sort of ramair, which is very restrictive (IMO). With the box open, it allows to take air from the top of the box (where it's open), and from the ramair.

BTW, I'm not talking about a 100hp gain here...

The clamps are stuck against the top of the first part of the box. I have a hard time taking them out, so I don't think the filter will come out. But I do make sure everything is in place every time I have a chance to pop the hood . Just in case

ok well if there are any gains they would be so small you wouldn't notice. you just think by doing this your car is faster...but it really doesn't do anything.

I'll be working on that sound tonight or tomorrow. I'll figure out a way to make it a little more quiet.

With your signature saying

"If it's too loud, your too old", that seems kinda wierd

Yeah I know heh... But I gotta admit, I prefer great music to that sound. Even though I kinda getting used to it. It's probably just the music overpowering the intake though

Anything you are gaining for airflow you are probably losing to hot air in the engine compartment.
