heat wrapping

I have seen pics of this done. Not on the headers, but on the intake pipe. Does it really work, providing a cooler charge or is it a waste of money? I don't have a heat shield for my cone either. Do either of these make that big of a difference? I don't want to waste money I could spend elsewhere.

It will crack your headers. Moisture.

I can't see it making a substantial difference for long runs. Eventually the tube will heat up regardless of the wrap.

Not worth the time/effort/money... Just water-inject instead! LOL

i beleive it just helps keep the heat inside the header/or whatever it is protceting, it makes the air inside the tube travel faster in theory by being hotter inside, while keeping external temps down inside theengine bay.

Header wraps keep the heat inside. DEI Engineering makes intake wraps and all kinds of hoo ha to keep stuff cool. I wrapped my headers about a year ago and my headers haven't cracked or warped or anything. I know a lot of people say not too but i just did it cuz i figured i wanted to keep the intake as cool as possible and every little bit helps i guess. If i were to do it again i would wrap them as mines still looks the same as the first day i wrapped them...Heres a nice site with some info for you.

I'd never wrap anything, unless it's for protecting nearby wires or hoses... The wrap doesn't allow the metal to disipate heat very well and "may" cause cracking. It's a 50/50 game really. Some horror stories, and some success stories...

i was just debating on wether or not i would heat wrap my header or not. just bought the rrm header. from what i read, i'd rather not take the chances. but is it a good idea to have a heat shield for the intake?

i just dont get why heat wrap would come on a product if it doesnt allow for the pipes to function long term.

im assuming the header or tubular manifold has a higher risk of cracking because it has more welds compared to a j pipe or up pipe.
