Aftermarket exhaust set up...

Im probably going to end up buying a 2008 lancer this summer once i sell my VW and im definitley going to be wanting to upgrade the performance. Probably software, short ram, maybe cams if somebody comes out with them. But heres my dilemma, every lancer except evo of course with an exhaust has a very ricey tone to it. How could i get that deeper tone and still have a more free flowing exhaust. I was thinking maybe just headers and a high flow cat with the intake would do the trick, but i figured i would post in here to see what everyones input was. Thanks in advanced.

youd be describing the note of a 350z. Lancer, for those who modify it get ricey tone, becasue in the end its a ricey car. Deep tone would be american muscle and the 350z (somewhat)... But if you wanted the deep tone you'd go for Borla or Magnaflow (American exhausst makers). You can go to a muffler shop and tell them what you wat also (cheaper way). BTW Highflow Cats and testpipes only make your car ricey-er (usually, not always but most of the time) so i suggest having resonators on them.

No muscle and 4bangers are very different. Ive been into cars since i was little and my 2.0 golf had a full catback but sounded great and not "ricey" at all. I just want something not so high pitched and weed wacker styles. Just seeing what everyone thinks.

Could always wait for greddy to make a system. I have a greddy on my 2003 lancer and it sounds fine, no high pitch whine or any of that garbage.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see when the market starts coming out for the lancers. Im sure people will post soundclips and videos.

To say something like that is just ignorant. I think the exhaust and other mods play into what the end note of the exhaust will be. My 2003 Lancer has a magnaflow catback, RRM SRI, RRM Headers, 4g93 intake manifold, and still doesn't sound ricey. It doesn't sound like a V8 Mustang either, but it sounds unique. And I've heard some Evos that sound like crap...

I guess it's about what you think ricey is. But I wouldn't go around making blanket statments like that though.

Its not an ignorant statement, its just a personal statement and feeling. Ive just never been a fan of lancers except evo's till this one came out.

And you can state that every Lancer exhaust sounds ricey... ok, then I totally understand where you are comming from. I happen to think that every VW has bad build quality.

To the point of your thread though, I think that no matter what you do any exhaust is going to be riding the fine line, between Rice and Nice. The best way to go to a local shop and have them fab you one with a muffler you like... if you don' t like the note then add a resonator or change the pipe diameter, although I think that going over 2.5 on an exhaust for a four cylinder NA car is too much. As I said though, when you add things to the E/H/E mix the note will change. Hell, adding the underdrive pulley to my car makes my car rev faster making the note change slightly.

If you are running a test pipe, eliminating all cats, and run a 3 inch pipe all the way back, your car is going to sound like garbage no matter what you do with it.

I believe road race has an exhaust set up for the 08 Lancer that is said to be around 11-13 horses (fyi) I agree with putting on a greddy, I have that on my 420 eclipse and the sound is not "rice" at all. I spoke to some guys doing the perf parts on my car stating nothing will come out for the 4B11 for about 2-3 months, stating that is like the "industry standard" but then again, he is a salesman.

No i would only go 2.25 tops on a 4cyl. unless FI was involved, then i would of course go bigger diameter. But i'll just wait and see when stuff starts coming out for the lancer. My first mod would without a doubt be two tone leather and suede seating and suspension. Then id start getting the go fast bits, exhaust, software, etc.

like i said magnaflow will give you the more powerful growl (obviuosly not a v8 muscle, i only said that for near refrence). Once again borla will also give you a nice non-ricey tone.... But Greddy is iffy - most greddys do sound ricey especially fi thier complimented by a pipe or cat. The car, belive it or not makes a difference... a greddy will probably sound ricey... Just wait bro, sooner or later some sound/vid clips will be available *(they are not the same as real life but they give you a feel to it). GOOD LUCK

your going to love it comparied to the VDUB i have my own volkswagen story...
ill post the whole thing up here...
sooner or later but just know the 08 gts comparied to an 07 model of the volkswagon brand is almost un comparibe in a sense
i have a feeling that this 08 lancer is going to be one of the cars that people talk about years from now... with the right performance upgrades it should be a heavy contender
