I own a 5-speed GTS but no pics.. looks the same to me, the tranny is the difference, not the engine.

the only difference is most likely the transmission mounts. There are usually very few differences as far as the engine bay layout for manual/auto cars.

thanks for assuming i'm an idiot!

i was just asking because i was thinking maybe the CVT was much larger than the 5 speed was, or maybe it has some components that take up spaces that the 5 speed does not.

i also might buy a 5 speed transmission to modify and install in the vehicle i already own.

and here comes the flaming...

because the CVT might* explode or prevent the car from reaching the HP capabilities that a 5 speed could.

*= There is no current study showing that this will actually happen.

Yeah, sometimes it happens on this board, people with nothing to say comment for the hell of it. Anyway, evolutionm.net during it's Lancer ES review did a couple of photos of it's manual transmission Lancer: http://gallery.boostlabs.com/evom/la...iew/index.html

(couldn't find good GTS pictures but I think the engine/transmission set up is pretty much similar if not actually the same), hope this helps

Plan on an ECU as well. The tranny is completely tied into the car's tuning and electrical stuff... Hell, we don't even know if a tranny swap is possible.

Im not flaming, I am actually just curious: Why would you consider an overhaul like this? Why didnt you just buy a 5 Speed? Why would you destroy the value of a brand new car? Where do people get this idea...from Fast and the Furious and Pimp my Ride? Does anyone actually go through with what they say about this kind of job? ....

Why would you waste the money in the first place. You paid extra for the CVT and now you want a 5 speed. These cars are highly in demand. Sell your CVT and buy a 5 speed. You wont lose much money if any at all.

Not much to say on the other questions, but the answer to this one is "very few on this board."

Again, with how much everything on the 08s are integrated, I'm thinking it'll be near-impossible.

He would lose money, but not nearly as much as he'd lose trying to do a swap. Honestly, it's rediculous to try a swap like this. As stated, the CVT is far too integrated into the car to just swap out.
