probably because 85% of autos are slower than manuals, the only ones that are better are high end german/italian or high end japs (lexus/acura/infinity) cars that i am aware of

so i tend to believe it. I also believe you have more control driving a manual over any auto, you just feel the car better. So the speed bonus is just that to me.... a bonus

I dont disagree, I was trying to get a CVT GT-S but the wait time was horrific (4 months) so i got the es.

Just saying why it would be faster, not necessarily saying they are 'better'.

Having a manual driving in DC traffic is a nightmare. I still wouldn't trade it for an auto though; it's too much fun when I'm not in traffic.

Question on the CVT- Will it let you hit the rev limiter if you aren't shifting? or does it go into override and shift if you start driving irresponsibly?

If I remember the MotorWeek episode I watched that featured the '08 Lancers, I think they said about a second difference from the standard to the CVT.

It was reported that they got the manual down to 15.9. The CVT was right around 16.5. I would say its maybe 1/2 sec faster.

Far as I've experienced, it just chills at the limiter. I haven't tested it for long periods, but it never auto-upshifted for me.

I've tried it, it doesn't up-shift for you. But, it will down-shift for you.
