Lancer INFO Display -

First question, I will be doing some fuel economy testing in the next few weeks as we take the 2 cars we have up to the dyno meter for some pulls with a few project upgrades. (I will post on the fuel economy testing shortly)

Does anyone know how the cpu/ecu arrives at that calculation whether it be by real time actual air / fuel sampling. Or is it done by pre determined algorithem based on speed, load, timing etc... calculations.

Second I are putting together a formal review of the Lancer GTS in the first week of September In that review I was going to make the inquiry of how hard would it be to have the CPU/ECU display actual speed and Load information From an end user point of view it will be impossible to do, but can it be done with little effort from Mitsu's end.

There has been rumored success with the AUTOTAP unit to pull "some"engine info so I am sure the information is there, but i know nothing about Mitsu engineering hands on.

Cheers

Not sure. But As for fuel economy, I think after it estimates you have about 30 miles or less left in the tank, it stops reading your fuel remaining in miles and just tells you to fill up. Not sure how accurate it is. I don't really like it.

Yeah, it seems like every time I blink, the MPG is reset. Is it only for that trip? All in all, I'm not terribly happy with how set up the INFO display, but it's kinda late now.

Yeah mine will reset every time I turn off the engine, and if you set it to manual reset, it only works for one cycle of turning the car off then on. Then it resets to auto reset (my god I hope that all the 'resets' dont cloud the issue)

kinda gay but no biggie

i think i read somewhere that it resets after 4 or 8 hours.
its bloody weird.

But i am 90% certain that it may be easy to change with a reflash. should mitsu have the urge to change it.

I just think the info gauge is such a waste of space if its going to tell you crap you already know. I mean who counts down the miles till their next oil change...

I see your hand up there Blacksheep... hehhe jokin but you. I agree with you its not useful.

I think they should put in a speed and engine load for a display, and for lord sakes, the temp gauge is such a waste of space. a simple cold mild hot would be better to look at

I need to do an oil change soon. It's been 3200 since my first. I know synthetic is good for a long-*** time, but I gotta treat the car good. Especially after hearing how a buddy tried to get warranty work on his Subaru and they asked to see every single receipt for oil and filters...
I'm already worried about when the 7500 countdown hits. I'm going to have to sit there and figure out how to reset that s**t. Last time I tried to get into the menu, I just reset stuff accidentally.

I give them a small amount of credit for the temp. gauge. It's what my car is on 24-7. I don't care about the bulls**t MPG meter or "miles til service" screen. So I leave it on the temp. and hope I never see that sucker move towards the right.

its funny, i got oil changes for life or at least until the mazda dealership i am great with shuts down, which hopefully never happens.

in terms of oil changes, I use the extended performance stuff, and drive 20000km per oil change running on extended performance filters. it makes sum squirm thinkin about it, but it hasnt failed my protege yet.

But i will keep it Dino oil until I get a boost system installed. but even then, it will never run heavy.

As for the INFO guages, it wouldnt surprise me if they make that temp gauge bigger for the 09 Lancer just because of your post :P hehe

I don't even have pull with RRM's product decisions, let alone . . .

Dino oil, eh? I heard that dealerships use synthetic on the 4B11, so that's what I'll be using until I hear otherwise. *shrug*

I use the temp guage every morning so I know when my car is warmed up before I drive of I never hard drive my lancer I always let it warm up. Also the MPG is a trip specific MPG reading it only calculates for your trip and after 4 hours of the car being off resets. If you have the navi the miles until next fillup and miles remaining info only resets when you refuel. I think the layout is great and i love the service reminders and service logs the car has built in since I will be getting all my work done at my local dealer and they will reset it I am very please with the features all in all.

Although some extra views on the info screen that have more info would be nice.

I was feeling brave and tested this on my 08 lancer GTS using the built in stopwatch on the navi unit.

After 30 miles remaining on the fuel guage, it will warn you to refuel (first warning, "pump" icon flashes slowly, one "bar" left on the gauge). According to my calculations, this is after 12.3 gallons have been consumed in the tank or roughly 3 gallons left.

It will warn you again to refuel after 13.3 gallons (or roughly 2 gallons left, zero bars left on the gauge). This second warning makes the "pump" icon flash very quickly. (At this point I fueled up where I put 13.3 gallons of fuel in).

So the distance til empty indicator basically tells you how much fuel left until the 2nd low fuel warning will display, leaving you a 2 gallon buffer.

If anybody discovers otherwise, let me know

Copy/paste from another forum, which is ultimately from the service manual for the outlander; worked on my 08 Lancer:

Some useful info from the service manual - here is how to reset your Service Reminder, Change the Maintenance Schedule (factory default is 6 months/7,500 miles but those of us requiring the "Severe Maintenance" schedule can change it as outlined below), or inactivate it altogether:

HOW TO CANCEL THE SERVICE REMINDER WARNING

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. By operating the meter information switch, the warning period is displayed on the multi information display.
3. Press the meter information switch once for 1.2 seconds or longer.
4. The service reminder indicator flashes.
5. While the service reminder indicator flashes, press the meter information switch once for less than 1.2 seconds.
6. The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and "CLEAR" is displayed on the multi-information display for 3 seconds.
7. After "CLEAR" is displayed for 3 seconds, the warning period to the next time is displayed.

HOW TO SET THE SCHEDULE
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
2. By operating the meter information switch, the warning period is displayed on the multi information display.
3. Press the meter information switch once for 1.2 seconds or longer.
4. The service reminder indicator flashes.
5. While the service reminder indicator flashes, press the meter information switch 3 times consecutively for 1.2 seconds or longer.
6. The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and the current schedule is displayed on the multi information display.
7. While the current schedule is displayed, press the meter information switch 3 times consecutively for less than 1.2 seconds.
8. The multi information display is shifted to the schedule selection mode.
9. When the meter information switch is pressed for less than 1.2 seconds, the schedule is shifted, and when the switch is pressed for 1.2 seconds or longer, the displayed schedule is set.
10. The schedule set in Step 9 is displayed for 3 seconds, and the warning period to the next time is displayed.

Schedule Warning types Warning criteria
NAS 10 (initial setting) Elapsed time (month) Every 6 elapsed months
Driving distance (miles) Every 7,500 miles of driving distance
Driving distance (km) Every 12,000 km of driving distance

NAS 11 Elapsed time (month) Every 3 elapsed months
Driving distance (miles) Every 3,750 miles of driving distance
Driving distance (km) Every 6,000 km of driving distance

NAS 20 Elapsed time (month) Every 5 elapsed months
Driving distance (miles) Every 5,000 miles of driving distance
Driving distance (km) Every 8,000 km of driving distance

NAS 21 Elapsed time (month) Every 4 elapsed months
Driving distance (miles) Every 3,750 miles of driving distance
Driving distance (km) Every 6,000 km of driving distance

HOW TO INACTIVATE THE SERVICE REMINDER
FUNCTION

By setting to "OFF Display" or "Function OFF" when the schedule is set, the service reminder function can be inactivated.

When "OFF Display" is selected
_ Even when the check warning period is reached, the service reminder display is not displayed.
_ Even if the service reminder screen is displayed by the meter information switch
operation, "OFF" is displayed.

When "Function OFF" is selected
_ Even when the check warning period is reached, the service reminder display is not displayed.
_ Even with the meter information switch operation, the service reminder screen is not displayed.

I picked up my Black GTS last weekend and immediately disliked that low fuel display once I saw it. If you want good information on load, speed, MPG, DTE, etc. I'd reccommend investing in a ScanGauge II.

http://www.scangauge.com/

I've had one on my '00 Neon (auto-x car) for about a year and love it! The trip data on that is excellent, tracking info on the tank as a whole, current trip, today's total and yesterday's total. I believe a 'day' is defined as ending after an 8-hour or longer power-down period.

...just be sure to take it out before dealer trips... or at least reset all the trip info so they can't see the MAX RPM and MAX MPH values... heh heh

Just my $0.02

Thanks, I have my hands on a AutoTap already which I use for different applications, but in this case we will be doing some monitoring if the rumor is true that its possible to get more data then the generic info.

In either case, its really something that Mitsu should have thought of.. my opinion... lol but most of us here are more then the average driver

hehhe

I would foam at the mouth if we had access to this info for our import
